My birthday is on 2nd May, and last year it was spent in full lockdown, where I wasn’t allowed to go out and do anything, I wasn’t able to spend it with anybody other than my own household. My presents were dropped to my doorstep at a distance from my mum, and it was just such a surreal experience. This year, we should be in stage two of the roadmap, which means that I will be able to actually go out for something to eat and drink, as long as the weather holds up, as we can only eat outside until a few weeks later when we enter stage three (if everything goes to plan).

I have been planning what I want to do, where I want to eat and, most importantly, what I want to wear, as my birthday celebrations will be one of the first occasions I will be venturing out of the house for in months! I definitely think a little black dress is in order, although I may need a jacket if the weather hasn’t warmed up by May… Jewellery is also a must – these white gold earrings from Chapelle are gorgeous, understated and classy. As for heels, I am going to have to have them on around the house to get used to wearing them again!

My plans so far are for a meal out at my favourite Greek restaurant, bottomless brunch with the girls and a nice walk by the sea with Bella. I am mainly just excited for a bit of normality, after the events of the past year. I miss just spending time with friends and family, and having a reason to dress up and make myself feel good. Jewellery is a massive part of that, I feel the right jewellery can pull an outfit together and can be the perfect finishing touch, bringing out your own personal style.

I do feel fortunate with the timing of my birthday, as I will be able to have my highlights done at the hairdressers, as well as having my eyebrow and nail appointments before my celebrations. I know it might sound conceited, but I do suffer with low self esteem, and having good hair and nails can make all the difference to my confidence. It will also be nice to be able to have my mum over in the garden, rather than having to stand on the doorstep this year, which will be lovely (although I would love to give her a hug too).

Nobody could have imagined how much life would have changed over the past year, but I am hopeful that things are finally turning around, and we are able to start gaining some normality again. I am looking forward to being able to get dressed up for my birthday this year, and spending it with the people I love.

The earrings that are featured in this post have been gifted, however all words and images are my own.
