With more and more people across the UK now being advised to self isolate, whether because they have symptoms themselves, a loved one does, or due to a school ‘bubble’ closing, I thought I’d put together a post with some ideas of things to do at home whilst isolating. These are activities you can do alone, or with others in your household, and hopefully will help pass some of that time stuck indoors.
Decluttering
Being at home more is the perfect excuse to get organised and declutter. The new season is a great time to get rid of the old and make room for the new, whether you are planning a house move or have redecorating planned, or if you just fancy a freshen up, it’s always a good idea to sort through your stuff and throw out anything which no longer ‘brings you joy’.
Work on a Goal
Remember at the beginning of lockdown back in March, when everybody said they were going to complete all the goals, and then, it just didn’t happen for many of us? Yeah, well a stint of isolation is just the excuse to give it another go. I have paid for an online writing bundle of courses, which I haven’t got round to doing yet, so when I need to stay home, that is the first thing on my to do list!
Relax
I know it’s easier said than done, but relaxing is so important for personal wellbeing. We tend to live with a mentality of needing to stay busy and always be on the go or doing something, but sometimes it’s good to just be still and rest. Run that bubble bath in the middle of the day, pour that glass of wine and finish watching that box set you have been meaning to complete. Chill out with a puzzle, read your new book, eat the cookies. Take it slow, your mind will thank you for it.
Catch up With Friends
It can be lonely, not being able to get out and visit friends, or even have loved ones round for a visit. Whilst you can’t see your favourite people in person, you can reach for the phone or set up a video call. Pencil in some time with friends and family to catch up, or plan a quiz like the good old days of lockdown. It’s so important to stay connected during isolation, although it’s also perfectly normal to want some time offline as well, whilst you’re at home. You don’t have to constantly be available.
Get Fresh Air
It may not be that easy to get fresh air whilst isolating, especially if you don’t have a garden, but even throwing open the windows for a little while each day can make all the difference. If you aren’t getting much sunlight, consider taking a vitamin D supplement to boost it up. It’s worth taking anyway during this time of year, as there’s less daylight, and it can help your over well wellbeing and mood.
