I am a huge fan of a spa day, although I don’t get as much of a chance for one lately whilst juggling everything, but when I was talking to my aunt recently, she mentioned that she had never been on one. So when I was invited along to try out the spa at Bournemouth West Cliff hotel, and able to bring along a plus one, I knew it would be the perfect chance to introduce my aunt to the humble spa day.
Bournemouth West Cliff hotel is under new management and they have made some changes to their spa days and treatments since I last visited the spa several years ago, as you would imagine, so it was nice to visit and see what the spa has to offer.
We arrived just after 10am and headed down to the spa reception to sign in. We were handed robes, towels and slippers, and shown around. The spa area is not the biggest I have been in, but it works perfectly, with everything you would expect and hope for including a pool, sauna, steam room, a jacuzzi and even an aromatherapy cave.
We headed straight for the pool, where it was lovely to swim without the children for the first time in ages. I love swimming, and need to make sure I go more often on my own. The pool wasn’t really big enough for proper laps, so we tried out the jacuzzi, which was lovely.
After a steam, and some time in the sauna, it was time for lunch, and we decided to get changed beforehand, so that we were ready for our treatments afterwards. We had a 2 course lunch included in our spa day, although there are also options for an afternoon tea, if this is more to your taste.
I decided on the West Cliff burger, whilst my aunt went for the Chill Con Carne, which came with handmade tortilla chips, which were delicious (she gave me one). The food was tasty, and the restaurant area was lovely to relax in after our morning in the spa. There were some other guests there in their robes, if you don’t fancy getting changed for lunch.
For dessert we both ordered the chocolate brownie with ice cream, which was absolutely gorgeous. We both agreed that it was the best brownie we had, and I could have happily eaten another one, although I was feeling pretty full by this point.
When we went back to the spa, it wasn’t long before our treatments. We made a quick trip into the aromatherapy cave, before heading back to the treatment lounge, which is just behind the changing rooms. The treatment rooms are so tranquil, I ended up falling asleep during my facial! We both had a neck, back and shoulder massage along with our facials, and it was the most relaxing hour. I didn’t want to leave afterwards and will definitely be going back with Ed as soon as possible, as he has been saying he needs a massage for ages.
If you are looking for a spa in Bournemouth, I would highly recommend the Bournemouth West Cliff hotel. A small but fully equipped spa, fantastic food and luxurious treatments to enjoy make for a perfect spa day for any occasion.
I was invited along for a complimentary spa day, however all words and images are my own.
