The children have reached the age where, if a toy doesn’t involve comical sound effects or involve some form of goo or slime, they aren’t that interested. Luckily, Poopsie Surprise Unicorn literally produces glittery slime from it’s bottom, so the kids loved it from the outset.
Poopsie Surprise Unicorn is one of those toys that parents look at and think, ‘really?’, but honestly all three of my kids were fighting over it, so it’s definitely a hit with the younger generation (and yes, now I feel officially old having said something like that).
Poopsie Surprise Unicorn is a lot bigger than I imagined, it comes in a huge storage case, which reveals several surprise packets to open as you peel off the outer packaging. Carly absolutely loved finding these and opening them as she went along. Although she did get a little overexcited at one point and managed to open one of the Unicorn Shimmer packets, sprinkling sparkly glitter dust everywhere, so definitely supervise this process!
Once all the packets had been opened, it was time to take out Poopsie herself. I must admit, Poopsie did appeal to my inner child. The unicorn has beautiful rainbow hair, a glitter gold horn and the biggest, bluest eyes. Even Ed was impressed with the little t-shirt it has to wear with the slogan ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.
Carly wanted to make Poopsie… well… poopsie, as soon as possible, so we had a quick read of the instructions and got to work.
Poopsie comes with a selection of accessories. As well as clothing, a potty, spoon, feeding dish, hairbrush, measuring cup, toothbrush, feeding bottle and miniature rainbow poop keyring (which you can use to store your slime), there is also Unicorn Food, Unicorn Magic, Unicorn Sparkle and Unicorn Shimmer needed to mix together to create your sparkly slime.
To make Poopsie ‘poop’, and create the slime, you need to first feed it the Unicorn Food, slowly using the spoon. Remember to switch Poopsie into feeding mode before doing this, and make sure it is wearing the ‘nappie’ to avoid any leakage!
After all the food is gone, it is time for water, 25ml to be precise. Then you need to rotate Poopsie, to make sure the combination of glitter and water is mixed together inside. Before doing this, the switch needs to be turned to rocking position, or you will end up getting wet (trust me)!
Once this is done, it is time for Poopsie to sit on the potty. Press on the button on its tummy and the slimy substance will be deposited. This is just as lovely as it sounds, but Carly was in her element! The next bit, however, was a bit of an anticlimax for her, as you need to let this sit for 20 minutes before the next step.
It turned out that not all of the mixture had come out when Carly pressed the button. There was a lot left in to storage section inside Poopsie’s back. We didn’t find this out until after it had set, so I would advise checking this straight after and adding to the potty.
Once set, you need to add half a packet of unicorn magic to the slime, and then add in the Unicorn sparkle. I must admit, it was a little complex for Carly, who lost interest a little and just wanted to play with Poopsie.
Carly (and the boys when she let them have a look in) enjoyed playing with Poopsie Surprise Unicorn. As a parent, I would say the price point is a little steep for what you are getting, but I can’t deny that the children loved the toy, and it is nice and big and sturdy as toys of this nature go.
One point to make is that the included food and other packets will go very quickly, and then Poopsie will be limited in what it can do, so this is definitely worth noting. However, Carly is now enjoying playing with the toy as it is, without the need to make the slime, so this isn’t a big issue for us.
We were gifted the Poopsie Surprise Unicorn for the purpose of this post, however all words and images are my own.
