Foodie Friday – A Carnival Christmas at Las Iguanas

So last night Ed and I were invited down to our local Las Iguanas in Bournemouth to sample their festive menu, and I was so excited – South American food & Christmas are two of my favourite things!

This year Las Iguanas is open throughout the entire festive season, including Christmas Day itself, meaning if you fancy something a little different from turkey this year, you can head on over for something with a bit more kick!

The festive menu includes a range of tantalising starters, mains and desserts as well as some fantastic Christmas themed alcoholic and non alcoholic drink options.

The Bournemouth venue really lends itself to the Christmas theme, with its industrial decor brightened up with the addition of a rather quirky Christmas tree decorated with dried fruits.

For our meal, which we had preordered in advance, Ed went for the 3 course menu, which is priced at £24.95 and I had the two courses at £19.95. You can also opt to start your meal off with a glass of cava, a Spiced Mango Mimosa or a bottle of Brahma for just £3 extra!

We decided instead to take advantage of the 2 for 1 cocktails alongside our meals, available all day, every day during the festive season!

For a starter, Ed had the Nachos Navidad – these weren’t your average Nachos, a lot of thought has gone into the toppings and this paid off with Ed claiming they were the nicest nachos he had tasted!

I went for the Cha Cha Chorizo, which was absolutely incredible – so full of flavour and warming. If you aren’t a fan of heat, these options might not be for you though, as both were fairly spicy!

Moving onto mains, there was no competition for me, it had to be the fajitas, they are always a firm favourite of mine and these did not disappoint (although I did run out of salsa as the pots were on the small side but more was brought when I asked).

Ed had the Dominican Goat Curry and he thought it was fantastic, he let me have a little bite and I have to agree – it was delicious! I was a little jealous if I’m totally honest – I will definitely have it if we come back whilst the menu is still on!

Full from the previous two courses, and the cheeky pornstar martinis I’d had with dinner, I still managed to share some of Ed’s dessert – the totally moreish Chocolate Dulce de Leche cheesecake, and it was quite possibly the best cheesecake I’ve eaten (and I’ve eaten a lot of cheesecake in my time). However I don’t think I could have managed an entire dessert on my own after those fajitas!

If you are still looking for a venue for your Christmas party this year, or you just fancy something a little different for the festive season, I would definitely recommend a trip to Las Iguanas!
