Wedding Wednesday – Considering Elopement

So I don’t know about you, but elopement has never been something I’ve known much about or ever really thought about. That is, until the last few weeks, when it’s all I can think about (well, apart from acid reflux which stops me sleeping, pregnancy sure is fun)…
Back in February when Ed and I booked our wedding in Santorini, we came to terms with the fact that we wouldn’t be able to have a big wedding and we would be limited in those people we could invite. What we weren’t prepared for was how little of that small number would actually decide they were going to come.

It’s come to the point where we have seriously discussed just cancelling the whole thing and instead heading off to Vegas, just us two, to get married there, hassle free and without any drama of who would and wouldn’t come. The idea has its attractions.

We know it’s expensive to go abroad for a wedding, and sometimes people just don’t have the money, but when it’s your immediate family, and your closest friends that are deciding not to come, it hurts. It makes you wonder what the point is.

At the end of the day, Ed and I just want to be married. We want to show the children a stable home, and we want to grow old together as man and wife. We don’t need the fancy Instagram worthy photos. We don’t need any of it.

I don’t think we will end up eloping. I think we will stick to our plans and head to Greece next summer. But as for guests, as for who will be there to witness us saying our vows, we shall see…
