Wedding Wednesday – Santorini – The Dream Wedding Destination

Destination2, who specialise in luxury travel, are asking where would be the perfect destination for your wedding or honeymoon abroad, a campaign I can definitely get on board with having recently got married in Santorini.

I always dreamt of getting married abroad. I’ve suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in the past, and the promise of guaranteed sun and blue skies on our wedding day was incredibly alluring.

When looking into where to go for our wedding abroad, Santorini with its stunning whitewashed walls and incredible views won us over.

Having never been to the island before, we weren’t sure what to expect before flying out, but it was even more beautiful then I had imagined, and I cannot wait to return. I think if Ed and I were ever to renew our vows, I would want to go back to Santorini. It truly was an incredible holiday.

Santorini is a fairly small island. We stayed in the west and got married in Thira, with our reception in nearby Pyrgos. If you are looking at getting married in Santorini, I would 100% recommend it.

The flight from the UK was fairly short (around 4.5 hours), the temperature when we went out at the very end of August was around 28-30 degrees celsius, and, despite it being a luxury destination, it wasn’t actually as expensive as I thought it would be.

Saying our vows overlooking the breathtaking caldera is something I will never forget. It was without a doubt one of the most incredible moments of my life, and the photos we have from these moments are so cherished.

Slightly more inland, our reception venue provided the perfect place for us to relax and enjoy traditional Greek canapés and music before we headed inside for our wedding breakfast and an evening of dancing and drinking (we had an open bar so the prosecco was free-flowing).

If you are looking at getting married abroad, or are planning your dream honeymoon, I would definitely recommend Santorini. It is hands down the most spectacular place I have visited so far, and, as a wedding destination, it is simply stunning.
