I have struggled with getting into good habits when it comes to going to the gym for the past few years. I was diagnosed with ADHD last summer at the grand old age of 36, and I do struggle to keep motivation once the dopamine of a new hobby wears off. However, I am really proud that I have consistently been going to the gym for the past four months since January, and I am into a fantastic routine, where I actually look forward to heading there now, and miss going if I am away and unable to get to a gym – huge progress for me!
I have enjoyed collaborating with some fantastic brands to put together this Gym Essentials guide, featuring everything from supplements made for women, to the coolest running trainers, and even beauty products that will help pre and post gym. As a new fully certified gym girlie, in my late thirties, I definitely need all the things!
1000 Mile Socks

These 1000 mile socks have been designed for both comfort and performance, and work to keep your feet protected no matter how far you run, or how hard you train. They are also made using recycled water bottles – how cool is that?

Water Bottle

If you go on runs or on the treadmill lots, you will know how hard it is to keep hold of a normal water bottle (especially the super heavy metal ones I use day to day) whilst on the move. I love this Runners Water Bottle as it is easy to hold, but also eco friendly as it is made from 100% bio polymers, made by plants, and fully recyclable.
Sleep Mist

Sleep is so important for muscle recovery, as well as for your general health and wellbeing. As someone who struggles to get my full eight hours, this sleep fragrance mist is really helpful for getting me to drift off, or head back to sleep if I wake up in the early hours.

Face Wash Gel

This facial cleansing gel has a 99% natural origin, with only 11 ingredients, making it a fantastic pre or post gym product to have your face feeling clean, soft and hydrated, without any tightness.

Pro Plus Fizz Hydration

Pro Plus Fizz Hydration is a tropical-flavoured effervescent food supplement designed to support hydration by providing electrolyte minerals. Each tablet also contains 75mg of caffeine, which helps to increase alertness and maintain concentration. I love the tropical flavour and each tube has 20 tablets, that dissolve in water, and they can be used before or after exercise (as well as after a late night, long days or when you are travelling). They are suitable for vegans, but do contain caffeine, so keep an eye on your overall caffeine intake daily when using them.
Trainer Essentials
Trainers are a staple when it comes to the gym, but they can end up looking old, tired and smelling awful with regular use. Enter these essential pieces from Cherry Blossom. With everything from sports whitener to sneaker fresh balls and cleaner, and the midsole reviver kit, you’ll have everything you need to get those trainers back in tip top condition and ready for another week at the gym.

Supplements for Women

I am almost embarrassed to admit that it’s taken me to the age of 36 to realise that supplements are actually really useful when it comes to your wellbeing, whether it’s to help you sleep, or give you a boost from within for your toning up journey. I have been told by my husband to start taking creatine for ages, so it was great to be sent some from Active Women along with some other brilliant supplements.

Repairing Facial Spray

This repairing facial spray is a lifesaver for those who get as sweaty as I do after a high intensity cardio session at the gym! Small enough to take along in your gym kit, it is so easy to use, simply mist over your face, with no need to rinse. It is gentle on sensitive skin and gives your skin the fresh start it needs post workout!
Dry Shampoo

Until I became that gym girl, I didn’t really appreciate how much of an essential dry shampoo would be (unless you want to wash your hair every single day, which is just not the one). I have always reached for Batiste for dry shampoo but this 24h Active version is a game changer! It is activated by sweat, releasing bursts of freshness as you workout – how amazing!

Running Trainers

I spend a lot of the time on the treadmill lately, as well as the stairmaster, so I need trainers that can cope with lots of time spent on my feet. These Aero Blaze 3 trainers are perfect for any workout. They are so comfortable to wear, lightweight and cushioned, my absolute favourite go-to trainer when it comes to the gym. Plus they come in some totally cool colour-ways – who says gym wear has to be boring and black?

I hope you enjoyed seeing what products I recommend, and I would love to hear what you cannot be without when it comes to gym essentials…
