The blinked-and-you-missed-it summer has gone and with it those carefree days where bedtimes were a little more lenient and mornings more relaxed. With the re-introduction of a structured routine as school returns, it is more important than ever to get the children back into good habits with a bedtime routine. Having a full night’s sleep helps to combat anxiety, keeps stress levels down and aids concentration, all super important for growing children, especially my eldest who is starting secondary school next week.
Comfy Bedding
I don’t know about you, but I feel 100% better when I get into fresh sheets and the children love it too. We were recently sent across some bedding for the boys, who share a room, from Bloomsbury Mill, which is such fantastic quality and looks lovely on their bunkbed. The space theme is brilliant for both of them, and looks great in their blue bedroom. Cosying up in fresh, clean sheets has the boys counting down the hours until bedtime!

The brand have a lovely selection of bedding available in different designs to suit all children’s tastes. They come in all different sizes too, from cot beds to doubles, which is nice as it means that my sons who have a six year age gap can still have matching bedding!

No Devices
I am a big fan of children using devices such as tablets or our old smartphones to play games and watch films on, and I am pretty laidback when it comes to using them, however I do think it is important to have a switch off time for theses, especially during term time, as the blue light can really mess with your body’s natural rhythms when it comes to winding down at night (trust me, I struggle to get to sleep when I don’t switch mine off early enough). Turning off the devices and getting settled in bed without that harsh glare from a phone is really important.

Bedtime Story
Even when I am super busy, I try and set aside time at the end of the day to read to the children as they love it, and it is quality time for me and them, which I find even more important since going back to work full time last September. Reading to them is my chance to wind down right alongside side them, and it gives us the time to decompress after a long day.

Cuddles
Generally speaking, we cuddle whilst reading the story, but I thought it was important to give it its own little paragraph. I have two very clingy children, and one a lot more reserved, and they simply don’t function well if they skip their cuddles with mummy at bedtime. I love when they wrap their little bodies in to mine for a hug at the end of a stressful day, it makes it all worth it and I will be sad when they are too old to want bedtime cuddles from me.

This post features press samples, however all words and images are my own.
