Press Visit

A few weeks ago, I was invited along to Zim Braai in Bournemouth to enjoy a meal and cocktails. I had been to the branch in Ashley Cross in Poole a few years previously, for a relative’s birthday meal, but I was excited to try out a different venue and to try some different dishes on the menu.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was welcoming – busy but relaxed, with attentive staff who were quick to take orders and serve drinks and food. I decided to go for a cocktail whilst waiting for our meals – the Cape Sours was really refreshing, and I could have easily had another, although it did go to my head a little (not a bad thing)!

We had the Slow Cooked Ribs and Halloumi & Tomato Medley to start. I’m not usually one to order a salad, but this was so fresh and light – the perfect choice when going heavy for the main dish.

Our mains came out soon after our starters, and I was impressed by the portion size as well as the flavours in the food. I went for the Moroccan Lamb Tagine, with rice, and it was just right – I’d order again. The peanut based curry also tasted delicious (I had a sneaky spoonful) and was rich without being overpowering or too strong on spice.

I always try and leave room for dessert, but it was a challenge – we opted to share the donut style dish, which tasted phenomenal. I wasn’t sure initially, if I’d like them as they were served cold, but I’m so glad I took a chance – life is more fun when you take some risks and it’s definitely true when trying a new cuisine.

I left the restaurant with a full belly. It was a fantastic evening, and I would 100% return and order a curry or the Harissa chicken next time! You can see the evening for yourself in my Instagram reel!

I was invited along for a press visit, however all words and images are my own.
