Audiobooks and podcasts are by no means a new phenomenon, they’ve been around a long time now, but they aren’t something I ever really listened to myself until a few months ago, when I was going through a really tough time and listening to self help audio books calmed my mind and helped me feel stronger as I recovered from physical and emotional trauma.
Since then, I’ve listened to quite a few different books and podcasts on Audible, all included in membership, mainly on my way to work or travelling, including comedies, mystery and self help titles, and I wanted to share the ones that have stood out for me.
French & Saunders : Titting About

I LOVED this podcast, which is fun, lighthearted and compulsive listening. I’ve always loved Dawn French, since watching The Vicar of Dibley as w child, and it was really interesting listening to some of her life, alongside Jennifer, in this hugely entertaining and easy to listen podcast. There are two series, with a Christmas special too, and I binged them – hoping they make more!
The 9 Step Negativity Detox

This was a cathartic listen. I felt myself nodding along to a lot of what I we being said, and taking notes after listening to the exercises, which were all really interesting. I liked the no-nonsense approach in this podcast, which covers topics such as Find Your People, Love Your Body and Be Your Boss. The episodes are structured well, and are fairly easy to listen to, although it might be best to save these for when you are able to sit and focus, rather than on a journey.
Motel Evil

I absolutely didn’t think I’d be including this when I first started listening, but it grew on me. So much so that I searched out more audio dramas once I finished it, as the format was so good for a boring car journey to Cornwall and back! I love a good murder mystery, and this had some good twists and turned, all performed excellently by the talented cast, who kept you guessing right up until the end. Addictive listening!
The Coldest Case

Having searched for another audio drama, I came across this James Patterson adaptation, which has Aaron Paul (of Breaking Bad fame) taking the lead role. I surprised myself how into the story I got, as I’m not usually one for a crime novel, but the fast paced action made it an easy listen, and I finished it in record time. Definitely one to keep you entertained, with a couple of twists – another good whodunnit drama.

Have you got why Audible recommendations? I’d love to hear them.
