Festive Celebration Outfit Ideas

I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of December. Although I suffer with seasonal affective disorder, it tends to give me a bit of a reprieve once that advent calendar comes out and the countdown to Christmas begins. I am a huge fan of Christmas, and I love all the events around this time of year.

Last year was so difficult, not being able to go out and celebrate, so I am trying to fit in as much festive fun as possible over the next month! From trips to our local ‘Christmas Tree Wonderland’ and Alpine Market, to catch ups with friends and family, and the classic office Christmas party, I am jam packing my diary and looking forward to it all. If you are heading out this Christmas season, here are some ideas for outfits, whatever the occasion!

For that Christmas Party

I cannot wait to don my high heels and let my hair down this December, after such a long and stressful year and a half of lockdowns and restrictions. If you are equally as excited to dance the night away, I would recommend picking out a classic LBD with strappy heels and a sparkly clutch – simple but effective and sure to look good in those cheeky selfies you’ll be taking after one or two proseccos!

For the Work Do

The work Christmas party is a whole other affair. I tend to act a little more reserved, especially when I am still new to the job as I am this year (I only started in the role in September). I would recommend dresses for women, and a shirt and smart trousers for men – keep it classy and elegant, but understated, and remember that becoming the hot gossip the next day is never a good idea, so limit the alcohol intake!

For Ice Skating with the Kids

I struggle with what to wear when I go ice skating, but you can’t go wrong with a pair of jeans or jeggings and a lovely warm jumper, topped off with a bobble hat and scarf – perfect for those Instagram snaps in front of the rink! I love a classic Fairisle knit at Christmas time – it’s timeless and not too over the top – I’m looking at you jumper playing festive tunes whilst lighting up like a Christmas tree (although if that’s your thing, 100% go for it, it’s totally the season to be jolly after all)!

For a Mulled Wine at the Market

We have an Alpine Lodge in the local town centre and I love how festive it feels now the lights are up and the Christmas carols are playing. I like wearing my trusty leather look leggings with a pole neck and my leather jacket and boots – simple but effective and all about the comfort when you are heading back home in the cold dark night!

For That Reunion Meal

If you are catching up with friends you haven’t seen for way too long, I would suggest going for a pleated midi skirt and embellished jumper combo. If you plan on eating and drinking all the festive food, this outfit is super flattering and will skim over the food baby that those pigs in blankets seem to cause every year!

Hopefully this post has given you some inspiration for outfits, for those festive events coming up.  The most important thing is to feel happy, comfortable and confident in what you wear, and enjoy the celebrations, the pandemic has been so hard on everybody, it is the perfect excuse to raise a glass and look forward to a new year!
