Press Visit
I love the choice of places to eat in Bournemouth, and have been lucky enough to visit many over the past few years as part of my role running the Bournemouth Bloggers. I was excited to hear that Slim Chickens, an American franchise, which has branches in the UK already, was coming to Bournemouth. I wasn’t able to make the launch event, as I was on a boat at the time, but I was invited along to try the food out last week, and I was impressed.

Slim Chickens offers relaxed, casual dining, with screens at the entrance making ordering quick and simple. You can go up to the tills if you prefer human interaction, or if the screens are in use. Once you’ve made your order, grab a table number and head to a booth, table or bench where you will be served your food. You can also choose takeaway, if you would rather have your food on the go.

I went for the Slim’s Chicken Tender meal and my friend had the 5 & 5 Meal, which was 5 chicken tenders and 5 chicken wings, and the portion sizes were really generous – I struggled a little to finish my chips! The meals came with Texas toast, which was a little like garlic toast. You are given the choice of dipping sauces, and I went for the Spicy BBQ and the Mango Habanero, which were both delicious.

You can choose to have a bottomless soda, which you pour for yourself at the drinks station (with the option to add a flavour shot), or a choice of yummy, thick milkshakes with flavours including Oreo, Popcorn and Caramel, for just £2 with any meal. I don’t usually like milkshakes, but I had a sip and it was really nice, like a thick, creamy ice cream – it may have converted me!

The only thing I thought was missing from the menu was something sweet to finish. I am a bit of a sweet tooth, and ice cream or a dessert of some kind would have been lovely to round off the meal. I also noticed that you could choose to have a beer, but there was no other alcoholic drinks available. I understand that it ties in with the American Sports bar vibe, but this girl is a wine drinker.

Other than that, I had a really nice time at Slim Chickens, the staff were friendly, the atmosphere was great, and although it is ultimately fast food, I didn’t feel like we were rushed out. The decor is welcoming, and I loved the picture wallpaper on the walkway to the toilets. I would recommend a visit if you are looking for somewhere casual and relaxed, with friends, family or on a date (although if you are on a date, perhaps avoid the chicken wings as you will get dirty!).

Slim Chickens is located next to Five Guys, on the second floor of the Bh2 Leisure complex in Bournemouth town centre.
I was invited along for a press visit via Route PR, and provided with complimentary food and drink, however all words and images are my own.
