Welcome to the new series on Even Angels Fall for Wedding Wednesday – Sit down with a Supplier. As the name suggests, once a fortnight, I’ll be metaphorically sitting down for a chat with a supplier from the wonderful world of weddings.
You may or may not know, I work in the wedding industry myself and along my way I’ve met some lovely and truly interesting suppliers who have plenty of tips, tricks and insider gossip. I thought it would be brilliant to bring those suppliers onto the blog and share their wisdom with my wonderful readers.
So, without further ado, please say hello to Sally Malcolm of Blushing Brides Bournemouth.
Hi Sally! Can you please explain what your company does?
Blushing Brides Hairstyling & make up for weddings. I come to your chosen venue or home to transform you into a ‘Blushing Bride’!
What are your top tips for couples?
Once you’ve decided on a date get as much booked as possible. Most wedding suppliers only undertake one wedding per day. I am always happy to ‘pencil’ a Bride into my diary no matter how far in advance the wedding is. That way, you get first refusal. There’s nothing worse than answering an enquiry and then not hearing anything again for a few months. By the time you come back to me there’s a high probability that I’m already booked. I hate to disappoint so book early!! Or, if you don’t require my services please let me know so that your date can be released! Bookings now being taken for 2017. Certain popular dates already taken!
What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry?
Weddings are always such a happy occasion. I adore working on my wedding party’s. It’s a very fulfilling job. So much so that it doesn’t feel like a ‘job’I love all of my Brides & we become friends rather than just having a stylist / client relationship 🙂
And make up is smokey eyes, defined brows and nude lips with a little shimmer on the cheekbones!
Brides are now wearing lace dresses with straps or sleeves.
Bridesmaids colour so far this season is various shades of blue from navy to light baby blue!
Other than your own company/product, what would you recommend for a wedding?
A professional wedding photographer is a ‘must’.I’ve worked alongside many great photographers in my time. All budgets admittedly but the thing that stands out is that they know exactly what to photograph at a wedding, especially wedding prep! When it’s a close friend or family member that dabbles in photography they really don’t quite know what to photograph. I often find myself suggesting that they take a photo of the dress, jewellery, shoes etc….Don’t risk it. Get a professional!!
What would be your dream wedding venue?
I’ve been married for 25 years now, we’ve just celebrated our Silver wedding anniversary.
Back in our day you got married in church or the local registry office and then typically had a reception in a local hotel or hall. We were married at Victoria Park Methodist Church, Bournemouth and held our reception at The East Cliff Court Hotel.
If I had my time again I’d probably choose a lovely local hotel where everything is in the same place. It’s just so much easier I think, for guests as well as the wedding party.
That said, as a big Disney fan I’d have loved to get married in front of the castle at Walt Disney World. They didn’t do it 25 years ago but apparently they do now……Maybe we need a vow renewal 😉
Thanks so much for your time Sally!
