I’ve been blogging for ten years, and over that time I have learnt a few tips and tricks, as you can imagine. I have seen trends come and go, I’ve witnessed fellow bloggers ‘make the big time’, and others discover, for whatever reason, it is no longer for them. I really enjoy blogging, and writing in general, and this passion has kept me going over the past decade. Four years ago I made the decision to register as self employed and make my blog self hosted. It was around this point that I really started to make an effort with my website, seeing it as a business as well as a hobby, and I started to make money from my passion, which was, and continues to be, an amazing feeling. One of the things that I set up around the same time as going self hosted was my media kit, which I have updated as time has gone by, to adapt to my blog.

If you haven’t heard of a media kit before, it works a little like a CV for creatives. You can use it to showcase your biggest achievements, brands that you have worked with and your stats, as well as a bio, picture and contact information. Some people choose to include their rates for sponsored posts and other services, but I keep that separate. Some people have a separate document, called a rate card, with this information on it, to be sent out if a brand or PR company request it.
I try to keep my media kit fairly simple, as they can look a little cluttered if you fit too many things on the page. I have worked with so many brands now, over the years, and it is hard to just choose a few to showcase on my media kit, but it is always best to focus on a selection to avoid filling the page with brand names. I run my local blogging network, as well as writing my own blog, so I have also included this information on my media kit. If you offer any other services, alongside blogging, such as social media management, product photography or copywriting, you could include details of these as well.

For my bio, I try to keep it friendly but professional, and to the point, including the details about me that I feel are important and key to understanding what my blog is about. I can always elaborate on anything of interest when communicating with a brand or PR company at a later stage.
As my stats and page views are always changing, I try and remember to update my media kit every quarter, to keep to fresh, with the correct information. I usually keep the same template, and just amend the details, and I find this works best for me, but it is a chance to really change things up, if you are feeling creative.

A media kit isn’t an essential, but I definitely find it comes across as professional to be able to send one out if you are pitching or applying for a campaign. I have been asked a few times specifically for my media kit, when working with a brand, so it is a good idea to look into one if you are actively applying for collaborations.

If you are looking at setting up a media kit for your blog, you can enter a giveaway, for your chance to win £100 worth of prizes – including £50 to spend with Design Bundles. It’s international, so anybody is able to enter and is open from Tuesday 19th January until midnight on 26th January.
This is a sponsored post, however all words are my own.
