I know, I know, after 2020, I am not going into this year making any grand plans, but I do like to put down some goals at the beginning of a new year, and this year more than ever, I am determined to focus on the positives, no matter how bleak it has started out (we went into Tier 4 here in Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve, so have effectively been in lockdown since the start of the year). Here are my 2021 goals, that I hope to work on during the year ahead.

Walk More
During the first lockdown back in March last year, I was really good at getting out of the house and going for nice long walks each day, as a way to escape the confines of our house. As time went by and the weather got colder during autumn/winter, these good habits lapsed and I haven’t been as disciplined at getting outside and walking as much. I want to be walking a lot more daily, which I think is going to be achievable. I’m not setting myself any step goals or anything, but just making sure I get out and about everyday will be a good start and should help keep me a little fitter too.

Less Processed Food
I don’t tend to eat ‘freezer’ food that often, although this has been something I have relied on a little more over Christmas and during the house move, but I am lazy when it comes to meals like curries and pasta bakes, where I rely on a ready made sauce instead of making it from scratch. I want to try and cut down the amount of processed food for the family, and focus on healthy, nutritional meals that are going to make me feel good from the inside out. I have recently had a little health scare, which is most likely down to a lack of vitamin K in my diet, so I will be focusing on rectifying that to begin with.
I have actually been really good over the past few months at reading more. I tend to read before going to sleep, which is a nice change from endlessly scrolling social media, but I want to keep track of what I am reading more, so that I can recommend books I have loved to others. I haven’t put together a What I’ve Been Reading post in a while, so I want to start that back up again this year. I have read some really good books over Christmas and New Year, so I want to share those.

Switch Off
I am not good at switching off from social media and I acknowledge that I have a somewhat unhealthy relationship with my phone. I want to stop being as reliant on it going forward, something I have previously attempted and failed at. I am looking at having a phone free day at the weekend, and putting my phone on charge away from me during the evenings potentially as well. It is hard, when you have a blog and social media accounts that you earn money from, as it feels like you are required to be accessible 24/7, but that isn’t healthy, and it definitely has an impact on my mental health, so I am working on this right now.

Have you made any goals for 2021, or are you waiting to see how this year goes before you plan anything?
