So, it’s finally December and those of us who have been getting their Christmas on since lockdown two started won’t be judged as much by others now that the countdown is fully on. If you are struggling to feel in the spirit this year, whether it’s because you are missing out on the usual Christmas activities you would be doing, or if you will be having a Christmas without loved ones, here are five ways to feel festive right now, sure to have even the grinches out there raising a glass of something fizzy…

Decorate

If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to get the tree up and start getting your house nice and pretty for the season. I must admit, everything seemed a little less stressful and dark once our tree was up, turning on those lights every evening and getting cosy in the front room helps me to block out all the negative things going on out in the world. We haven’t put up the lights outside the house yet, so I am looking forward to doing that this week. Whack on the Christmas tunes whilst you decorate, pour yourself a festive tipple, and get your Christmas on!

Open the Advent Calendar

You are never too old for an advent calendar! I have more than I care to admit this year, including a No7 Beauty one, and a yummy chocolate one as well. You can get an advent calendar for every taste these days, there are even alcohol ones out there, so grab a last minute bargain, if you haven’t already picked one up, and get opening those doors and counting down the days until Christmas is here.

Christmas Films

Perfect for these cold evenings at home, there are so many Christmas films to choose from and they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Get the blankets, grab the Christmas snacks (you can always replace them), and get cosy in front of the tv with the tree lights twinkling – the perfect antidote to all the stress going on at the moment.

Wrap Presents

There is something about wrapping Christmas presents which just gets you feeling festive, doesn’t it? I would recommend doing a few at a time rather than going in and trying to get them all done at once – that sounds more stressful than fun. Put the tunes on, or a festive film in the background, and feel all warm and happy about the smiles on their faces when they open your gift.

Head Outside

If all else fails, get yourself wrapped up warm and head outside to go for a walk and take in all the festivities around you. Grab a takeaway hot chocolate, pick up a real Christmas tree, visit the Christmas lights or just revel in the frosty air before heading back home and getting into those cosy Christmas pjs you put away last year. It will definitely help if you aren’t feeling festive just yet, plus a walk in the fresh air is brilliant for your mental wellbeing too.
