Features gifted items
At the start of this week, my daughter turned eight. As we are currently in a second UK lockdown, we couldn’t celebrate the way she originally wanted to (a VR party with her school friends). Instead, we had a very low key couple of days doing what she wanted within the regulations, opening presents from relatives, eating a big homemade chocolate birthday cake and enjoying her two favourite meals.
On the day before Carly’s birthday, we headed out to a local forest for a walk, which is what she chose to do. We quite often go out for walks – the kids love being outdoors in nature and it gives us all a chance to reset and get a bit of a break from being at home.
I had been sent along some items of clothing from Tog24’s outlet store, as part of a collaboration with them on TikTok, and we took advantage of our change of scenery to film this and snap some photos of the clothing whilst we were out.
The weather had been nice and sunny when we left the house but, as is the case quite often in the UK, before long the heavens decided to open up and we all got soaked. Luckily I had my new weatherproof coat, but it was quite exciting getting caught in the middle of a storm, and Carly said it had made it more fun!
Back home we put on a film and the kids snuggled up on the sofa before we had the roast and birthday cake.
Carly’s actual birthday was on the Monday, so Ed and the kids were all at school for most of the day, but we had a nice family meal of spaghetti bolognese, made calls to family so that they could wish Carly a happy birthday over video and watched a film together before bed.
It may not have been the birthday we had envisaged, but it was still a lovely celebration. I feel that, for all the negative 2020 has brought, one good thing is it has shown us what is truly important – being able to spend time with our loved ones.
