This weekend I am turning thirty one, effectively entering the ‘over thirties’ category, something which would have terrified me a few years ago, I won’t lie. Now, especially with everything going on in the world at the moment, turning another year older is something I consider a blessing rather than a curse. I am not afraid of getting older anymore, but I have been trying to work on my personal style as I age.
A few years ago, after I had my youngest son and I became a mum of three, I would have definitely shyed away from online clothing websites like FemmeLuxe, thinking they simply weren’t for me, but when the team got in touch asking if I would like to try some of their items, I figured why on earth not? Age is just a number, after all, and their site has outfits that would look fantastic on women of all ages. All you need is the confidence to wear them and own it. So I made my order with my upcoming birthday in mind, hoping to find clothes I could wear to celebrate, even if it will be at home this year, and I am really happy with my choices.
The Wine Balloon Sleeve Dress

This wine balloon sleeve mini dress is made with the slinkiest of materials and, although I was a little worried about how clingy it would be, I loved how it looked on, and it feels so soft and comfortable to wear as well. The dress comes to halfway down the thigh, which I admit is a little higher than most of my dresses these days, but I think it looks lovely with black heels for a night out (after lockdown of course) and the balloon style sleeves are great if you are self-conscious about your upper arms. I wasn’t sure whether to wear the sleeves off the shoulder or not, but it can be worn either way. It is also a flattering cut for those of us not blessed in the boob department, as it emphasised what cleavage I do have, without being too low cut. Overall I love this dress, especially the colour, and will definitely be wearing it when I am finally able to go out for a birthday drink with friends.
The LBD

This is my favourite of the items as it made me feel so confident wearing it. I struggle to feel ‘sexy’ these days, with the three kids, but wearing this strapless mini dress made me feel fantastic and I will be wearing it on my birthday evening for drinks and a quiz on Zoom. Just because I am stuck at home, it doesn’t mean I can’t dress fancy for my birthday, right? I love how it looks with black heels, but I also think it would work with gold or bright accessories to give it a bit of colour. I really like the style of the dress, which has fabric drawn across the middle, which really flatters women like me who are most self-conscious about their stomachs, after having children. I also love the sash, which gives the strapless dress a little extra something.
The Slogan Tee

I saw this t-shirt on the website and knew I had to have it. One of my favourite songs at the moment is Sweet but Psycho and it this slogan tee totally sums me up. I really like simple black t-shirts with white writing, and this goes nicely with my mom jeans and heels, or sandals or trainers to make the outfit a little more casual. I went for a size 8-10, and it is a little snug, so I would consider sizing up if you are between sizes like me. The t-shirt feels like it is a good quality, and it is a nice length too (I have found that lots of slogan t-shirts tend to be slightly cropped, which doesn’t suit me).
The Luxe Loungewear

I was a little unsure about ordering loungewear from the site, mainly as I wasn’t sure I could ‘pull it off’, but I took the plunge and I am pleased that I did as this black loungewear set is great for chilling out in, although I am not sure I would head outside the house wearing it, as the website suggests. This is purely a personal choice, I just don’t think I suit loungewear in public myself. The material is a little different to how I imagined it would be, less stretchy than other loungewear that I have, but the fit is ok (I went for the 12-14 and it is fine apart from the trousers being a little loose around the upper thigh, but tight on the rest of the leg).

I am really pleased with the clothes I chose from FemmeLuxe, and am glad that I didn’t let my past insecurities put me off of trying a new clothing website. I have my eye on some of their other dresses, for after lockdown, and I am definitely going to take another look at their other slogan tees.
The clothing featured in this post was gifted, however all words and images are my own.
