Mummy Mondays – Keeping my Family Warm This Winter with AO

Although I’m nearing the big 3-0 and I have three children, I sometimes struggle to remember that I’m an actual adult. It feels like just yesterday that I was a carefree teen.

I can safely say that this month I definitely felt like I had made the transition into a ‘proper’ adult though, when I took a delivery from AO for an indoor heater.

When I was kindly offered the chance to review an item from a selection of products available from the electrical retailer, a panel heater might not have been the most obvious choice, but for me, it stuck out because as I have been getting older, I also seem to have been getting colder and my gosh it’s been blooming cold outside this past couple of weeks, hasn’t it?

I tend to work in our conservatory during the day and take my blog photos out there as its the lightest room in the house (fellow bloggers, you’ll understand the struggle), but the conservatory is also the coldest part of our home – so cold that we have to keep the door closed at all times at the moment, to avoid any heat escaping from the rest of the house out there. Therefore you can probably imagine how cold I end up after working out there for awhile.

With the three young children to think about, and me obviously, keeping our house nice and warm throughout the winter is high on my list of priorities.

When the heater arrived I was more excited than I care to admit to get it out and set up. I will be honest, it was a little too complex for me. I’m not the most technical of women, but Ed cracked it in no time and soon I was sat excitedly staring at it waiting for the coldness to evaporate.

I can hands down say this is my new favourite gadget. Not only does it work incredibly well at heating our previously freezing cold conservatory, it also has a couple of rather nifty features that I had never realised I needed, but now obviously can’t live without..

The first of these is the open window function, which basically kicks in once the temperature drops more than a couple of centigrades in two minutes.

This means that if we open the conservatory door to go outside or to the shed and leave the door open, the heater will switch itself off so as to prevent wasting electricity. After ten minutes it will switch itself back on automatically – so cool!

The heater is also wifi compatible, something that attracted me in the first place as I am a sucker for gadgets. The heater can be used in the more traditional way, but it can also be linked up to your smartphone, enabling you to power it up remotely.

This is brilliant as, if we are travelling home and I know I need to get working as soon we get back, I can heat the conservatory ready for our arrival, wasting no time and preventing me from sitting in the cold until the heating kicks in. It’s such an inventive idea and my favourite feature!

If you have more than one of the heaters in your house you can control them all at once with the app. You can also set up a regular programme, which would work well if, like me, you plan on heating the room around a work schedule.

If you go away, you can switch the heating onto an energy saving mode, and program it to come on in time for a warm arrival back home.

To start using this handy feature, simply download the ‘millheat‘ app (available via both android and iOS) and follow the instructions in your manual. If for whatever reason you don’t get on with the wifi feature, you can simply deactivate and reconnect at any point.

I will be using my new best friend throughout the remainder of the winter, and probably going into spring too if our weird and wonderful weather goes the way it has done in past years.

I don’t know how I coped without it – well I do, with endless supplies of those fluffy socks you get in Primark and constantly cuddling up to the kids in a bid to steal their body heat… but this is a much more sensible, grown up option for a woman nearly in her thirties.

I was provided with the Mill Heat Panel Heater from AO for the purpose of this review, however all opinions and photos are my own.

I get cold so easily so any heating products I need to know of are well appreciated. I love the look of this, would probably end up cuddling it for extra warmth though. What an interesting product to be able to review as well!

I can relate to quite a bit of this! My parents have a conservatory and I tend to go over and make use of the lighting in winter for blog photos. But it’s always freezing cold! When we sit out in the conservatory for dinners, my parents put their heater on and it makes such a difference. I’m so glad you got yours before this snow has hit, so you can still make use of your conservatory. Xx

Thanks, definitely a good idea to have some extra heat in those rooms! In the summer you’re fine as the sun warms the room and it’s actually the hottest room in the house haha x

I think I need this for my guest bedroom! Nobody ever goes in there so it’s always freezing & that makes it so hard to have guests walk into it 😅😅
