All Fired Up – Pottery Painting Cafe – Review

For my sister’s birthday the weekend before last, we went to All Fired Up in Bournemouth town centre to paint some pottery. Having been there before, we knew what to expect, and we weren’t disappointed. The cafe provides the perfect base for friends/families to come and relax, paint something and have food and drink if they want.

It is advisable to book, especially for a Saturday as when we got there it was packed. It’s very popular for children.

Luckily we had booked and we got ourselves settled at our table and a member of staff came over to explain the process to us. It’s a set fee of £3 per painter for the firing at the end and use of the paint, brushes etc. The remaining cost then depends on which product you choose to paint. Prices for the pottery range from around £4 up to £25 and largely depend on the size. I went for a little clown fish as it looked pretty cute.

We set about getting our paints and brushes and were provided with mixing palettes and water on the tables. It’s advisable to look at the colour chart when mixing paints as they often come out lighter than you would expect and generally you need a few coats of paint to make the colour you want.

I decided to go for a few different colours and then had the crazy idea of putting sunglasses on my fish, which then ended up being more like goggles. Overall I was happy with my crazy little clown fish though and we handed the items in to be fired.

Collection is 1 week later, although they will keep them for awhile afterwards if you aren’t able to collect the next week. My sister went to collect ours on Saturday and I am actually quite pleased with how my fish turned out. The kids love him too, although I’ve had to remind them it’s an orament not a toy as I don’t want him broken!

I will definitely be taking them to make their own creations sometime soon as I know they will love it. I would definitely recommend for all occasions – parents looking for an activity with the kids or as a brilliant daytime activity for hen parties or birthday celebrations. Not only is it a fun activity, you also get to take home your creations.
