For the first time in what feels like ages, I have managed to take time off from working during the school holidays and I’m off on a little UK adventure for October half term with the kids (and Ed and my mum) in tow. One of the parts of our trip I am most excited for is our stay near Oxford, when we will be spending Halloween itself at the beautiful, atmospheric Blenheim Palace.
Blenheim don’t do things by halves and they have a full line up of activities and events this half term to ensure that your Halloween celebrations are filled with fun! On the agenda: Pumpkin decorating, storytelling sessions, a family circus show and fascinating fire performances… The activities run from Monday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November, so there is plenty of time for you and your little ghouls to visit and have fun during half term.
The fun is spread out across the grounds with a Pumpkin Patch decorating and a Wizard Walkabout in the Walled Garden. This is also the location for the daily Family Circus Shows which take place at both 12:30pm and 3pm, and a special Circus Workshop at 1.30pm. Make sure you capture the fun around the garden with themed photo spots too!
Meanwhile, in the Great Court, you can catch Fire Performances that are sure to delight visitors of all ages. These are on every hour from 12pm to 3pm.
The popular Adventure Play area (we absolutely loved visiting this back in the summer) will have an all-new immersive Pip and Posy trail, based on the ‘Grumpy Pebble’ episodes, guiding children through some fantastic interactive activities. There are tasks to complete and a fully immersive play area, which includes clamber nets, tunnels, slides, rope bridges, secret chambers and even giant carrots!
If that isn’t enough fun, you can also spend just £1 per person more and ride on the miniature train through the Terrifying Tunnel, running daily from 10am to 3.45pm.
You will need to purchase a day ticket or have a valid pass in order to visit Blenheim and enjoy their half term activities. The Palace & Play Pass is priced at £150 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 children). It is also worth noting that the Halloween light trail at Blenheim is a separate ticketed event, which is from dusk to darkness Friday 25th October – Sunday 3rd November. You will need to purchase tickets additionally to your Blenheim pass for this event.
