1. Jurassic Coast, Dorset
Step back in time along the beautiful south coast.
This striking, scenic drive weaves from Weymouth to Bridport – or the other way around, if you prefer. Recognised as an official UNESCO World Heritage site, the Dorset and the East Devon Coast boasts alluring vistas of striking coastlines set on towering cliffs, with luscious grasslands ready to roam and explore.
As for the route, following the B3157 offers an immersive 18-mile drive, promising the very best coastal scenery in the area. From Weymouth through to Portesham and Abbotsbury, the tarmac rises steeply to reveal idyllic views of the coast.
2. Gower Peninsula, Wales
Awarded the UK’s very first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty back in 1956, the Gower Peninsula boasts an array of sights and attractions. Whether you’re driving with your partner or the whole family, you can indulge in culture, history, and the great outdoors.
From ancient stone ruins and majestic castles to pretty coves and beaches set on soaring cliffs, your imagination is the limit in this beautiful place. Resplendent beaches await you, many with hidden coves and spectacular vantage points.
We suggest driving along the A4118 through to smaller roads like the B4271, which take you to the most picturesque parts of the area. Expect to see charming towns with independent cafés, restaurants and book shops too.
3. North Coast 500, Scotland
As Britain’s answer to Route 66, the NC500 promises one of the most scenic drives of a lifetime.
Starting and ending at Inverness castle, this legendary route is known for its dramatic, rugged landscapes and beautiful coastlines. At just over 500 miles long, it’s vital to ensure that your vehicle is safe and roadworthy by booking an MOT online before your departure date.

4. Dragon’s Spine, Wales
Finally, this aptly named, fearsome route makes for one of the most remarkable ways to see Wales. From Cardiff in the south to Conwy, a quaint, walled market town in North Wales, this exceptional route follows the A470 through two national parks. You’ll cruise through to the Brecon Beacons, and then onto the incredible Llyn Clywedog reservoir in the heart of Wales.
After passing charming rural towns, you’ll cross deeper into Snowdonia National Park. The route includes the A4069 Black Mountain Pass and passes through fertile, mountainous valleys before concluding at Conwy.
