We recently stayed overnight at the Grade ll listed Tylney Hall Hotel in Hook, Hampshire and it was such a beautiful retreat for Ed and I as busy parents in the process of moving house (they say it’s one of the most stressful processes in life and we definitely needed to chill out and escape)! Here’s five reasons why you need to stay at Tylney Hall Hotel this summer.
Outdoor pool
I am obsessed with anywhere that has either an outdoor pool or hot tubs lately. There is something so relaxing about chilling in water on these longer days when the weather has been beautiful, making the most of the last rays as the sun goes down. Tylney Hall’s Health Club’s outdoor pool is heated to around 29 degrees, which was a brilliant temperature for a swim. I also really enjoyed just hanging out around the pool. Top tip: go either later on in the evening (it closed at 8pm when we were there) or first thing in the morning (we went down for 8am when it first opened) to beat the crowds and have the pool to yourself. It felt like we were lord and lady of the manor when we were doing laps alongside each other with only the sound of birdsong for company. Around 1pm when we were leaving the grounds, we noticed it was packed around the pool, so bear that in mind if you prefer it a little quieter.
Expansive Grounds
Talking of the grounds, they were incredible (66 acres)! We decided to head off exploring after we had checked out, before our journey home, and I am so glad that we did as there was so much to see. As well as on-site tennis courts and a croquet lawn, there’s woodland, a couple of lakes, plenty of beautiful manicured lawns and even an abandoned bunker from the war! Whether you are wanting to get your steps up, or you love to discover the history of your hotel, Tylney Hall certainly delivers when it comes to exploring!
Beautiful Bedrooms
We stayed in the Orangery Suites, which were absolutely beautiful. I cannot recommend the suite we stayed in enough – it was huge, across two levels, and the bed was the comfiest I have slept in, those pillows were like lying on clouds! The walk-in shower was also top notch with fantastic Molton Brown toiletries that had me taking more showers than I strictly needed over the course of our stay as they smelt so good! I also loved the location of our room, which stepped out to the Koi Pond, but was also just a short stroll from both the indoor and outdoor pool, and close by the restaurant, which was convenient for both dinner and breakfast.
Exquisite Dining
We dined at the The Oak Room restaurant and the food was outstanding. I tend to be fairly fussy at times but I tried a couple of dishes I wasn’t used to and absolutely loved them. The starter I had (Brown Sugar Cured Pork Pressing), especially, was melt in your mouth delicious. I could eat it again and again! The service was second to none too, our waiter Damien was so friendly and accommodating, and always at hand when we needed a top up of our wine. It was a beautiful dining experience from start to finish. If you are looking for something a little more laid-back, they also have the Lounge & Bar, with a menu that includes some yummy sounding dishes too. I think I would be tempted to dine there if I brought the kids with me, as the dining room had a very peaceful adult-only atmosphere. Breakfast the next morning was also lovely – we both opted for the Full English, and there was a full continental buffet to choose from as well.
Convenient Location
Tylney Hall is in Hook, Hampshire. For us in Bournemouth, it is a really simple drive down the motorway and only took under 1.5 hours to get to, which is the perfect distance for an overnight staycation. It is just a few minutes from the main roads (connected in all directions by the M3 & M4 motorways), and easily accessible from both the south coast and London, for those wanting to stay in countryside luxury, without the need to travel for hours. It really did feel like we were totally secluded, with a tree-lined driveway which really set the scene for the beautiful grounds ahead.
