Today I did something I haven’t done for quite some time. I cancelled plans and prioritised putting my mental and physical health first. It may sound obvious to do this, but I am too often guilty of pushing myself to my limits and beyond to try and make sure I fit everything in, quite often due to fear of missing out, or a worry that I will be letting somebody down if I don’t accept invitations or back out of plans already made before things got too much.

We had a lovely stay last night, which I will be posting about soon (head over to my Instagram to check out what we got up to in the meantime) and the plan originally was for a busy day today volunteering, getting lots more content shot and writing more of my book alongside various other tasks in and around the home. However, with a very busy week ahead (seriously, our shared calendar app is looking insanely busy right now), I knew I would be pushing myself too much if I didn’t slow down. So instead I chose to take things at a much slower pace. We took our time this morning, had a lie in, had a really nice slow brunch with our friends who were staying at the same place, and then enjoying time in nature including a much needed dog walk with our Sprocker Spaniel Bella, who was very pleased to be out and about. Plus it gave me the chance to wear my new hoody and coat from Lighthouse Clothing too – so comfy and great for getting ready for spring!

The sun was shining (so needed after so much rain and gloom lately) and it has made me feel so much better and ready to take on the week ahead. It is so important to remember to take time to yourself and chill from time to time, especially if you have a lot on whether at work or in your home life. I know I am really bad at doing this and plan to factor in time for this going forward to avoid burn out.

These are some ways I plan on taking time for me:

Dog walks

Heading out in nature is such a tonic, especially if you suffer with your mental health as I have done in the past. I want to make sure I go on more dog walks, as a way to keep myself accountable. Plus Bella is so cute, it’s nice to spend time outside with her.

Long Baths

I am usually a shower kind of girl, but there is something so calming about having a nice long bubble bath (plus I often get sent products from Lush, so it gives me an excuse to properly pamper myself).

Reading before bed

I am so bad at being on my devices until right before I head to sleep and it is so bad for you! I want to get back into reading before bed (which I love) as it really helps me to unwind and escape from my busy mind and makes me sleep better as a result.

Sea swims

I have started going on sea swims at the weekend, something I usually only do during the summer months, and it is amazing for my mind and wellbeing.

Catch ups with Friends

I see a lot of friends during blogging events but I am awful at arranging time with them outside of this. I want to change this as it is so refreshing to catch up without the need to create content.

Do you struggle with overworking yourself to committing to too many things at one time? How do you make sure you take time for you and prioritise a slower way of living from time to time?

This post features press samples, however all words and images are my own.
