This weekend is the Bournemouth Air Show, a popular annual event on the calendar for locals and holidaymakers alike. This year, French cheese brand Boursin have a pop-up dining space on the beachfront in a bid to combat food waste, which is arguably worse during the summer months when higher temperatures (I know, I know, but usually the weather is better than it has been) and an increased social diary can lead to wasting the food we have in our homes.
Boursin have teamed up with Great British Bake-Off star Manon Lagreve, who has curated a deliciously tempting menu, which will be served from the Boursin Bistro over the air show weekend. The dishes, which can be easily replicated at home to help fight food waste, are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, with the proceeds going to charity FoodCycle, which works tirelessly using surplus food and empty spaces to provide three-course meals for those experiencing food poverty and social isolation. It’s a really worthwhile cause and Boursin have provided an excellent way to support the charity whilst also enjoying tasty food in a hard to beat location, right on the beach, with the air show performances flying overhead.
We were really fortunate to have been invited along on Wednesday evening, ahead of the launch of the pop-up, to experience the atmosphere, learn more about the initiative, meet Manon herself (a total sweetie and very passionate about food and food waste) and of course to try the dishes themselves as well.
I had opted for the Almond Crumbed Cod, which was fantastic, but we also had the chance to try the rest of the menu as well and I must admit, my favourite was the Creamy Plant-based Pasta, closely followed by the Stuffed Chicken Roulade, which was so tasty, with that gorgeous Boursin flavour coming through in the spinach filling. Afterwards we were surprised with a gorgeous Crepe Suzette, which finished the meal off perfectly, as we were treated to a front row seat of the Supermoon over the water – spectacular!
It was such a lovely evening and I was in great company too with fellow Bournemouth Bloggers Amy, Jonathan, Faye, Rachael and RJ. We had a brilliant time catching up and watching the sunset as we listened to a live performance by Swing Train 42, very talented and a beautiful soundtrack to the night.
