Please tell me it’s not just me counting down the days until the kids are back at school? I know it sounds bad, but with the summer being the total washout it has been, and being cooped up inside with the children for weeks on end, having that end in sight is making me feel a little less stressed! My children head back in to school next Wednesday as they have two Inset days before they go back, and these last few days are all about getting the uniforms ready, the lunches prepped and, most importantly, establishing a routine.
One of the most important parts of our weekday morning routine is brushing teeth, a bone of contention for my kids aged 12, 10 and 6, all of whom seem to think teeth brushing is some kind of medieval torture rather than a necessary part of their daily hygiene. Luckily we have been sent across two of the GUM Playbrush interactive electric toothbrushes to make the morning (and evening) teeth cleaning go a little smoother!

GUM aim to make teeth cleaning fun for children, so it doesn’t feel like a chore and they actually look forward to that time of the day rather than dread or avoid it. The toothbrushes come in 3+ or 6+ and in a pink or blue colour (we have one of each to avoid arguments over whose is whose). The heads can be replaced easily, and the design is really simple to use and to charge as well. We actually had one of the brand’s previous brushes, which was great, but I can see an improvement in this design too, and the kids are really happy with their new toothbrushes.

Onto the fun part! GUM Playbrush have an app which you can download for free on your smartphone. You can then create an account and make a profile for each of your children who have a brush. They can pick their profile character and what they would like to be called and then you have access to the free to play games. If you would like, you can also upgrade to premium, which gives you more fun games to play (we have been provided access and the kids especially enjoy the Brush Hour and Feeding Frenzy games). The games have difficulty ratings and all aim to encourage proper teeth brushing in a fun, interactive way. I must admit, I have learnt a better technique just by watching the kids play some of the games and seeing angles to reach every single tooth each and every time.
The children love their GUM Playbrush toothbrushes and it has been a complete game changer when it comes to our morning and bedtime routine as they now want to go and clean their teeth – the main issue now is the fight for the sink! I would really recommend the brushes if you are looking for an electric interactive toothbrush for kids, but especially if your children struggle at remembering to brush their teeth each day, or don’t enjoy it. I have really struggled in the past to coax the children into the bathroom twice a day to clean their teeth, but now they enjoy it and it is so much easier. The games are fun and do help the kids brush properly, without me needing to nag them, plus you can keep an eye on how they’re doing in the app with the handy brushing overview as the app actually keeps track of which teeth are being cleaned/the pressure etc. The premium features are available on a free 30-day trial and are priced at £3.33 per month (billed annually) afterwards including refills, or £2.83 a month without refills, billed every 3 months.

We were gifted two toothbrushes, however all words and images are my own.
