I make no secret of the fact that I find autumn and winter a challenge. I suffer with Seasonal Affective Disorder, which means that as the daylight lessens and the Vitamin D levels drop, I tend to get low and my mental health is really affected. In order to combat this, I try and plan lots of things to keep me occupied and I also try and focus on the little things that bring me joy in the colder months. Here are some of those things…

Fresh Bedding

Is there any better feeling than sinking back into freshly washed bedding? Well yes, as it happens, as I just received the nicest bedding set from Julian Charles, who are celebrating 75 years this year with a beautiful design, which looks amazing and feels so good when you get into bed, I never want to get up in the morning!

Addictive TV

There’s something about autumn tv, isn’t there? At least when the evenings get darker quicker, I can send cosy nights in with good shows that I’m happy to binge. My favourite? American Horror Story – although I do also love a classic re-run of Friends or The Office (the American version, I cannot stand the original).

Pole Classes

It is so important to keep up your exercise regime in the colder months, even though it is harder to stay motivated, especially when your bed is so damn comfy! I really enjoy going to Spin and Sprint classes now, but my true love when it comes to working out is my pole classes, which I now do two of – Heels (a choreo class) and the pole fitness class, which I have been doing for coming up to 18 months and absolutely love! Pushing myself in a class gives me so many endorphins – it is unbeatable.

Happy Playlists

I love listening to music, it can bring my mood up so much just singing along to some good tracks (good in my opinion, I have a very eclectic taste in music, which also changes all the time). I listen to music in the car, in the shower, in bed, when I am working, when I am working out, when I feel happy and when I feel sad – it is the best!

Long Walks

There is something very underrated about a long walk on a cold day or night when you can see your breath appear in front of you. I have struggled massively in the past at this time of year, and let me tell you, these kind of walks have saved me on more than one occasion.

All the Candles

I love candles. I love the smell of scented ones, I love lighting them, I love sitting in candlelight of an evening, I love how they provide all the atmosphere you need for any occasion – they are magical and I love them!

Cosy Knits and Chunky Boots

I love autumn fashion, which is amusing as I have such a problem with the season, but what’s not to love about cosy jumper dresses paired with chunky boots, or delicate knits with a classic leather mini-skirt? I cannot wait to switch up my summer wardrobe for all the comfy clothing.

All the Christmas Shopping

Yes, Christmas is my favourite time of the year, it beats summer, it beats my birthday – I love to give presents as much as I like to receive them, so I also love the run-up and buying all the gifts in the shops or online. Get me those festive finds!
