Going back to the office after the Christmas break can sometimes be tough, but this year I figured I would be more prepared to make things a little smoother as I transitioned from eating all the pigs in blankets and leftover chocolate to sitting back at my desk and actually getting some work done. If you are struggling with the return to work, here are some work bag essentials to help make things easier – because if January is anything, it isn’t known for being easy.

Pain Relief

Sitting at a screen all day can give you a headache, so it makes sense to be prepared and have something in your bag to take the edge off. A good option is portable drug free pain relief, to have to hand for any aches and pains that you might have during the working day.

A Good Planner

If your job, or life in general, involves organising lots of meetings or travel, having a good planner is essential for keeping on track. You can get organisers that cover so many things these days, including family planners, if you have a partner and/or children whose schedules you need to be aware of too. I find that if I try and keep too much information in my head, I end up forgetting things, so writing important dates, times and commitments down is a good idea.

If you’re anything like me, you end up eating at your desk and working right through your lunch break. I have started bringing in a book to work so that I have something, other than my phone or computer screen, to look at. Having a rest from your work actually helps with productivity, and reading is brilliant for the mind. If you aren’t a big fiction fan, you could pick up something to dip in and out of instead.

Portable Charger

I work in social media, and my phone always ends up on its last legs by the time I leave work. Having a portable charger is a great idea if you are on the go a lot, especially if you need it to call clients or to check emails. You can pick them up online easily, and they are small enough to pop in your handbag.

Packed Lunch

It can be so tempting, especially at the start of the year when the weather is so bleak, to resort to eating junk food at lunchtime. Planning ahead and packing yourself a nutritious lunch to take with you can make all the difference to how you feel during the day. It doesn’t have to be about weight-loss, but choosing foods that will fill you up and keep you going is a good thing, right?

Going back to work after Christmas can feel strange, but by being prepared, and changing your mindset,  you can start the new year feeling in control and ready to succeed – getting 2022 off to a good start!
