Last March, just before the UK went into lockdown, I attended an event with the Bournemouth Bloggers at The Kings Arms Hotel in Christchurch, which had reopened following a refurb. At the event, I received a scratch card, which I won dinner for 2 on. Due to the pandemic, various lockdowns and losing the scratch card during my house move, I only just got round to booking the meal and I went along this week.

I hadn’t been to The Kings Arms since last March, but I was really impressed with how stylish the venue is, how welcoming the staff were to us, and how efficient they were with their Covid-19 precautions (Track and Trace and an electronic temperature checker on entry). We were shown to our table and provided with a bottle of still water, before our waitress came to take our order. A bottle of house wine was included with the meal, and I was pleasantly surprised that my wine glass was discreetly kept topped up throughout the meal.
Ordering from the set menu, we both went for the duck to start, which I absolutely loved – it was gorgeous, all the flavours really working together, and just the right amount to not leave you feeling too full before the mains. I went for the fish and chips, which looked huge, and there were a few too many chips on the plate for me to finish, but the fish was delicately battered, and it wasn’t rich and greasy as I have experienced in other restaurants. I tried mushy peas for the first time, and enjoyed them as well. Tom had the chicken, which looked lovely too.

For dessert, we both opted for the Brownie Sundae. I couldn’t quite finish it, after my previous two courses, but it was really nice – I know my mum would love it too! Throughout the entire meal, I was really impressed with the service we received from the waiting staff, who were attentive, helpful and friendly. Good service goes a really long way when you are out for a meal, and it definitely made the evening all the better – the staff are a credit to the venue.

You can book a table at The Kings Arms, via their website, or by giving them a call. They also offer gift cards, if you would like to treat a friend or loved one.
Although I won the meal through a blogging event, I was under no obligation to post anything, I was just so impressed with the meal and service, I wanted to give the venue a little shoutout.
