I recently started counselling with the NHS service Steps 2 Wellbeing, which I self referred myself for back in October, when I was going through a tough time. I have had several counselling and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) sessions in the past, but this time round I have decided, with my therapist, that I will be focussing on improving my own self esteem and confidence, as it is at an all time low and has been quite bad for many years.
One of the hardest things I find, when thinking about myself, is being able to pinpoint the things about myself that I like. Instead I tend to focus on the negative parts, the things that I don’t like and I would like to improve. As part of my self improvement, I wanted to write down some of the things that I love about myself, and share them in this blog post so that I can refer back to it when I am struggling.
My Eyes
I struggle with seeing myself as pretty, but I do like my eyes. They are blue and fairly intense, and I have had a lot of compliments about them in the past.

My Long Legs
I have always had fairly long legs, and I like how I look in skirts, dresses and even in jeans and leggings with a nice pair of boots or heels.

My Tenacity
I have had a bit of a rollercoaster of a life so far, with lots of events that have tested me over the years. I am proud that I have managed to pick myself back up when things have knocked me down, and I have come out stronger. When I found out I was pregnant at university, I didn’t give up, I carried on and managed to graduate along with the rest of my year, with a one year old in tow.

How Much I Care
When I am friends with somebody, or with a partner, I will 100% take on their own worries, fears and problems as if they were my own. I go the extra mile to try and make people feel better, whether that is helping somebody find a new job, picking up that perfect gift that will help bring a smile to their face, or just sending them a card or text to let them know I am thinking of them when they are feeling happy or sad about something.

That I Listen
If somebody is having a hard time, I am willing to listen, and to try and help them in whatever way I am able to. Sometimes I can’t actually help, but just listening might make all the difference.

I have struggled with my self esteem for a long time, but I am working on it now, and this post has reminded me of some of the things that I love about myself, which is really helpful when it comes to regaining my confidence. If you are struggling with your own self esteem, I highly recommend sitting down and thinking about what you like about yourself.
