Ed and I are big fans of The Coconut Tree, which has branches across the UK, including our local in Bournemouth. We had been due to go along for a review visit just before the second lockdown started here in England, so it was lovely to be able to instead try out their new click and collect service, which is available during the week, with a 50% discount Monday-Wednesday.
Ordering is simple, you just click onto the Coconut Tree’s Takeaway Menu, select your local restaurant, and choose the dishes you would like to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. The process is similar to ordering takeaway, although you will need to head out to the restaurant to pick up your order at the specified time. Remember to bring along a mask or face covering, as you will be required to enter the restaurant to collect your food, and may need to wait for a few minutes if they are busy with lots of orders (this was the case with me, but the member of staff made me aware and was apologetic).
The food is packaged up in cardboard boxes, and I was a little uncertain about how some of the dishes, the chicken and goat curry particularly, would travel and keep warm, but we were pleasantly surprised.
I must admit, I did struggle with the presentation skills when it came to serving everything up – the dishes didn’t look quite as appetising as they do in the restaurant, but everything still tasted incredible, and the portion sizes are really generous.
Whether you haven’t tried The Coconut Tree before, or it is a favourite venue of yours, make sure you support local and try out click and collect during lockdown. The food is delicious – I highly recommend the goat curry, Sri-Tato and the Cheesy Colombo (fried cheese cubes in a sticky sauce, insanely good)!
