Date Night at Turtle Bay Bournemouth

Press Visit

Ed and I haven’t had many date nights over the past six months or so, due to the pandemic and the house sale. It has been a stressful time, so it was lovely to be invited along for a meal at Turtle Bay in Bournemouth, to get away from it all for a couple of hours.

We hadn’t been to a restaurant since the new face covering rules had come into force, so it was interesting to have to put a mask on to enter the venue, until we were sat at our table. We were given a table by the bar, which was fine for us, but it was quite high up, so some may not have appreciated it.

We decided to go for some cocktails and were impressed to find out that the 2-4-1 offers on drinks had been adapted to fit with the earlier closing time due to COVID. It meant that we were able to both have two cocktails each, and it was a lovely start to the evening. I had Turtle Bay’s take on a pornstar martini (a Side Chick Martini), and it was totally delicious. Ed went with the waiter’s suggestion of a Mai Tai – I tasted it and it reminded me of the green and white Tangfastic sweet keys!

We decided to share mains and sides between us, as I wasn’t sure about how spicy the goat curry I had my eye on would be. In the end, it was just right, but I still enjoyed sharing Ed’s burger and cheesy jerk fries, alongside my grilled halloumi – everything tasted amazing, but I was so full afterwards!

For dessert, we shared the chilli chocolate brownie. It comes with a vegan coconut ice cream, but we opted to change it to the Nutella style ice cream instead, which went really well. I wasn’t keen on the brownie as I found it too dry, but Ed enjoyed it. It does need the ice cream though!

Service was really quick, so quick in fact that we would have liked an extra ten minutes before our food came out, to properly enjoy our cocktails and the conversation we were having. It did slow down quite a bit as the restaurant filled up, and we were waiting for our bill for quite a long time in the end.

Ed and I had a lovely date night at Turtle Bay in Bournemouth. I had been once before with friends, but Ed hadn’t been before. We will definitely go back – we have our eye on the bottomless brunch, which comes with either a brunch dish or a burger or roti – yum! Turtle Bay Bournemouth is currently offering 2-4-1 on breakfast and brunch dishes until 11am, so ifs the perfect chance to try something a little different!

We were provided with a complimentary meal in exchange for social media coverage. I was not asked to write this blog post and the words and images are my own.
