I don’t know about you, but the week before Christmas always seems to go by in a blur. Rushing between one errand to the next and fitting in school Christmas parties and carol concerts, whilst running on barely any sleep after staying up late wrapping presents to go under the tree. I was happy to escape from it all for a couple of hours last night for a catch up with fellow blogger Rachael at The Lazy Fox in Westbourne.
The venue is newly opened, and is located right in the centre of Westbourne, just a short distance from the seafront and from Bournemouth town centre. As with many of the shops, bars and restaurants in this area, the venue is fairly small but I actually liked the intimate atmosphere, with just the right level of noise to make conversation possible, but not too public.
Rachael and I have gone to many events together and went to lunch a few months ago, but it was nice to have a proper catch up whilst enjoying some of the cocktails, starters and sides that The Lazy Fox had to offer. We started with a Gin Fizz, which was perfect, light, refreshing and so easy to drink (it went down way too easily). We also had some Halloumi Fries brought over to us, which were delicious. I love a good Halloumi fry, and these were cooked to perfection, lovely and thick and just the right level of crisp to the outside. I need to go back just for them!
Our second cocktail was a Pina Colada. I will let you in on a secret, I have never had one of these before, despite them being on almost every cocktail menu I have ever seen. I just wasn’t sure about the combination of pineapple and coconut, but actually it was quite nice. I wasn’t as keen on our next cocktail, which was a white chocolate martini. I don’t like the texture of milk, and this was incredibly rich and a little sickly, if I am being honest. I ended up leaving most of it, but I would recommend if you like a creamy cocktail, and think it would be brilliant as a dessert cocktail, if you are eating a meal.
We were served up some Mac and Cheese bites, which were nice but served with a blue cheese sauce, which neither myself or Rachael liked, and they could have done with an alternative sauce to be enjoyed best. Our final cocktail was a Mojito, which is one of my go-to drinks when I am having cocktails.
I had a nice time catching up with Rachael, and would recommend a visit to The Lazy Fox if you are looking for a laid back venue for a drink with friends. Next time I visit I will be trying their burgers, as they have a whole range of tasty sounding combos, which smelt amazing whilst we were there.
I was provided with complimentary food and drink in exchange for coverage across social media. I was under no obligation to write this post.
