I am so excited because next week my Uncle is visiting from Canada, where him and his family moved a long time ago, when I was still a teenager. As it is a long way away from us in Bournemouth, we haven’t seen my uncle that many times in the past decade, so this trip has been much anticipated by our family.

We have travelled to Vancouver Island, where my uncle lives, a handful of times but I have never been to any other areas of Canada, which is something I definitely want to change in the future. In fact, there are three Canadian destinations on my travel bucket list for when the children are a bit older and we, hopefully, have more money.

Montreal

I have wanted to visit Montreal ever since I saw pictures from a friend’s trip there several years ago. I am into my food, and there are so many highly rated restaurants in the city and the must-try foods sound right up my street – Poutine (chips, cheese, gravy, need I say more?), bagels and smoked meat sandwiches.

I am a big fan of a destination’s culture and I love that Montreal has so many museums to visit. I also really want to visit the Notre-Dame Basilica as it looks incredible from photos I have seen.

I reckon I can get Ed on board, as Montreal also has lots of microbreweries to visit.

In terms of distance, Montreal is around 7 hours from London, which isn’t too bad (I am not great on long-haul flights as I suffer from claustrophobia) and I’ve found affordable flights to Montreal online, so this may well be a trip we take in the not too distant future.

Toronto

Another must-visit for me is Toronto. The place looks amazing in photos, with so many open, green spaces. I like visiting cities, but I can’t stand feeling hemmed in with too many people in the streets making it feel crammed.

I love that Toronto looks like a chilled out version of London and New York, whilst still having so many things to see and do. I have also read that lots of tv shows and movies were actually filmed in Toronto, so I am excited to visit and see which places I recognise from some of my favourite films.

One of the things I really want to do when we visit is to hire a car and head off on a road trip – Niagra Falls is obviously on the list of places to head to!

Banff

When I tell people the places I want to visit in Canada, Banff is always the one that has people saying, where? Fair enough, it might not be as popular as a tourist destination for British people, but the scenery alone is enough to have me researching hotels out there.

Situated in the Canadian Rockies, Banff has plenty to see and do during your trip. If you enjoy skiing, this is the place to go. Meanwhile the Banff National Park is home to lots of rare and exotic animals, although I must admit I am a bit nervous about potentially running into a bear or two (although there are tours where you can stay at a safe distance with a proper guide).

The restaurants are also brilliant, with all types of cuisine on offer – perfect for Ed and I who like mixing it up when it comes to meals out whilst on holiday. I’ve already bookmarked some of my favourite hotels in preparation for a trip, including somewhere with an outdoor hot-tub with the coolest backdrop – the stuff of Instagram dreams.

This is a sponsored post, however all words are my own.
