Every year you plan to be prepared for New Year’s Eve, to celebrate in the most awesome way, and every year you end up slumped on the sofa with a lukewarm glass of sparkling wine watching the fireworks on TV.

Sometimes it’s the nights which aren’t carefully laid out in advance that are the most memorable so don’t worry if you’ve left it a bit late, there’s still time to put some plans in place.

Throw an Impromptu Party

A New Year’s Eve gathering doesn’t have to be big or fancy to be fun. Put out a last minute shoutout to friends and family to see who else might be at a loose end, get people to bring some party food and a bottle with them, bulk buy the party poppers and you’re all set!

Head to a Public Fireworks Display

What more atmospheric a way to see the new year in than surrounded by people? Ive often watched the display by The Thames in London and wished I could be there, but you don’t have to venture that far afield to find fireworks. Have a search on your local events pages and I guarantee there will be something going on.

Go to Your Local

We were watching Shaun of the Dead the other day and when they talk about Shaun’s obsession with the local pub, it’s a bit of a joke, but why the hell not head to your local pub on New Year’s Eve?

It’s often a cheaper alternative to other events on the evening, but just as much fun and you’re hardly going to run out alcohol when you’re in a pub!

Make sure to check whether you need to book and/or buy a ticket in advance to avoid disappointment on the night.

Watch some Live Music

I’m not talking Ed Sheeran, I’m guessing the big names are most likely either booked up or hugely out of most people’s price range for New Year’s Eve, but why not check out more local homegrown talent and see if there are any performances going on nearby?

Not only will it be a good night, you might also find a new act you love.

Jet off Somewhere

Ok, so this one is for those of you who have a little more disposable income than we do, but if you’ve got the money, why on earth not?

If you’re feeling reckless, search on short break booking websites and grab a last minute deal. Imagine seeing in the new year in a new and exotic location. I can but dream…

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve this year?
