Last week I was invited down to Beales department store, in Bournemouth, where MeMeMe Cosmetics had recently opened up a stand, for their blogger event.
I will be honest, before the event I hadn’t really heard of the brand before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I headed over before my review visit to The Stable.
The event was very casual, with those invited able to attend anytime between 5 and 8pm, so I was very lucky to be there at the same time as Amy, from Everything Mummy, who I had only met up with for lunch a few days before.
I also finally met Emma from Ellemma, who I have been chatting to for months via social media but hadn’t ever met before ‘in real life’. I also met some other lovely bloggers including Kristy from The Violet Blonde.
We were treated to a lovely glass of prosecco before being provided with a mini makeover by the lovely makeup artist Carlota, who was also simultaneously running the stand during the late night shopping event which was going on.
I tend to play it safe when it comes to makeup generally and I don’t usually go for a red lip, but everyone told me how nice it looked on the night.
Before we left, we also got the chance to have a little play with the samples on display and Carlota picked out the right foundation shade for us and gave us a brilliant goody bag filled to the brim with MeMeMe products to help create a party look for us to share with them.
Not one to shy away from a challenge, although a little nervous as I haven’t actually done many makeup looks on the blog so far, I set about putting together my take on the perfect party look for all the festive events I have coming up this Christmas.
I used the MeMeMe foundation, in shade 1 – Porcelain, along with the concealer kit, to create a flawless base.
I loved that the concealer was made up of a cream and powder, and that it even had its own built in mirror.
The foundation really surprised me as it gave me really good coverage – something rare in a lot of products I’ve tried in the past.
A little went a long way, as well, and I found this provided a really lovely canvas for the rest of the makeup to sit on.
To create a subtle shimmer, perfect for the party season, I added a small amount of Beat the Blues to my cheekbones and brow bone before applying Cherub’s Blush to my cheeks.
I love these products, they remind me a little of the Benetint and Sun Beam from Benefit, and the illuminator gives me the perfect shimmer without being too in your face.
Next I decided to focus my attention to my brows. I am the first to admit that I don’t really know the first thing about how to make my brows look nice. I kind of wing it most days, and I am sure that my pencil technique could do with a lot of improvement.
This product is great as it’s not too complex for somebody like me who doesn’t really know what they’re doing.
I love a nice strong brow, and this product didn’t disappoint. It did give quite a dramatic look, but I think with practise I will get better at a more natural finish. I felt like my eyes were much more defined and it really brought together the whole look.
I love a nice Smokey eye, and I usually resort to my trusty Naked2 palette from Urban Decay but I was interested to see how the Goddess eyeshadow quad from MeMeMe would compare.
I blended the slightly darker shade of my metallic quad, along with the bronze and copper shades to create this sultry look, and then I used the lightest shade to make it a little less serious.
I love the finished look, and will definitely be recreating it again for the Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties we have coming up.
I made a rookie mistake when it came to the eyeliner, as I think I should have applied it before the eyeshadow (I usually wear a kohl liner on my waterline, despite being told by a previous makeup artist not to do this).
As I am a total novice, I don’t think my liner looks too brilliant, but I loved how easy it was to apply, and it came out nice and thick, without smudging, which to be honest is all I am really looking for in an eyeliner.
After I had finished with the liner, I applied the mascara, which was excellent for lengthening my lashes. I am funny about mascaras and generally remain loyal to one if I find a product which works. This one was nice, but I wasn’t a convert, so have passed it on to my mum, who was on the lookout for a new mascara.
To finish the look, MeMeMe had given us both a lip crayon, and a gloss. I absolutely love the crayon – the colour I had, ‘Deep Scarlett’, instantly transformed my look and gave it that ‘wow’ factor. I am still a little nervous about wearing such bright and vibrant colours on my lips, but this has swayed me to the dark side, and I will be picking out some other shades to push me out of my comfort zone!
I thought it was a brilliant touch that the lip gloss actually lit up when you open it, as well as having a mirror on the side – perfect for touch ups during a night out!
Overall I loved the products that I received in the goody bag, and I love the look I’ve created, which I will definitely be wearing for those all important Christmas events. I also wore my gorgeous new headpiece from Beauxoxo and I love how it looks in the photos!
I am going to be heading back to the MeMeMe counter in Beales as well, as I have my eye on the seventh heaven face base primer and the Golden Angel Hydrating Oil, which smelt absolutely gorgeous when we sampled it at the event! It reminded me of refresher sweets!
If you have yet to try MeMeMe cosmetics, definitely give them a go! If you’re local to Bournemouth, their stand is in the Beales department store in Old Christchurch Road, and if you don’t have a stockist local to you, head to their website where the full range is available online.
