Last weekend my family and I headed off on a rather spontaneous break away at Seven Palms, a stylish airbnb in Mudeford, around half an hour from us here in Bournemouth. We had only organised the stay a couple of days before, but it was actually really refreshing not to have much planned and to just go with it.
Seven Palms is run by a really lovely down to earth lady who put me instantly at ease with her messages and the information provided via the app (accessed via a QR code) on arrival was so in-depth, it was excellent and perfect if you are coming from further afield and you don’t know the area well, as it went into detail on what was nearby including shops, activities and restaurants (it is just a short walk from Christchurch Harbour Hotel with their Upper Deck and The Jetty restaurants, as well as being fifteen minutes to Avon Beach with the fantastic Noisy Lobster).
Seven Palms has four bedrooms, including one with twin beds perfect for children, and sleeps eight so I was able to take along my mum to help out with the three children, and allowing us to spend Mother’s Day morning together, which was lovely!
You are also welcome to bring along one well-behaved medium-sized dog so we brought along our two year old sprocker spaniel Bella, who was in her element. Every detail was taken care of right down to blankets, dog treats and even poop bags for Bella.
For us humans, a welcome basket bursting with treats was very much well-received. We had fresh crusty bread, a sharing bag of crisps, some biscuits, Dorset Tea, jam, gin & tonic and a popcorn making kit with toppings, which Benjamin absolutely loved doing that evening.
The decor is stunning, really well thought out, all mod-cons but also beautifully thought out and an Instagrammer’s dream (honestly, I just want to share these photos over and over again at the same time as moving in)!
I was super impressed with the bathrooms (there were lots of them, one downstairs, one upstairs and an en-suite, so no fights over getting in there even with a big group). The bath caddy is a great touch and the showers were really powerful, just how I like them.
The location was fantastic too, as I have said above, really close if you want to get some food, but also the perfect distance from the beach, we just headed for a walk with Bella down to the seafront (dogs are allowed on the beach until 1st May), but it would be great for those into Watersports during the warmer months too. The road is really nice and quiet, and it feels super safe too, whilst still being really close to everything.
We opted to cook, mainly as the kitchen is so nice (we are waiting to renovate and ours is awful currently) and it was a dream to knock up some pasta and then eat together at the table. The kitchen is open-plan and lovely to cook and eat in, I can imagine it would be great for a group get-together too.
We did head out to the garden area, but it was a little cold to fully appreciate the space – it will be lovely during the summer though with a barbecue, plenty of outdoor furniture and the twinkliest of fairy lights that make the outside space look so inviting.
Heading back indoors, the living area is gorgeous and my favourite room in the house. There’s plenty of comfy seating, and a big Sky Glass TV with every channel you could need for a cosy night in. We opted to watch Eurovision (absolutely love that film), and it was so nice to chill out and really enjoy some time all together after a lot of hectic time at work recently.
Seven Palms have you covered if TV isn’t your thing, with so many books, games and puzzles to choose from, honestly it is a complete home away from home (but, you know, super luxurious at the same time).
When it was time to go to bed I almost didn’t want to remove all the lovely cushions, but it was so nice to sink back into the super-soft bedding (they were so soft we worried they might have been goose feathers and mum has asthma but I’ve been reassured they are feels-like-down, very impressed). I had the best night’s sleep, and the next morning woke up feeling refreshed as I was joined in bed by my three children wishing me a happy Mother’s Day.
We had another brilliant family meal that morning – a cooked breakfast, perfect, before chilling out for the rest of the morning prior to checking out. If you aren’t local and would like to explore the area, Seven Palms have handily provided leaflets for local attractions including Splashdown, which the kids love. The New Forest is also right on your doorstep, which is a great way to burn off some energy if your kids are anything like mine!
I couldn’t fault our stay at Seven Palms, it was quite simply perfect and just what we needed for a slow paced weekend resetting. The house is gorgeous, and I could quite happily have stayed for a week, if only to enjoy those amazing showers and to soak up the beautiful interiors for longer.
I would recommend it for families but also for groups (no stag or hen allowed though), as it is the perfect size for a get-together, and in a fabulous location too. Summer stays are sure to get booked up super fast, so head to the website to make your booking – you won’t regret it!
