I cannot believe the time has come for me to write this post to be honest. I know it is cliche but oh my word have the past eleven years gone by in a blink! My eldest, Cameron, will be starting secondary school ?(or big school as we affectionately refer to it) in less than two months and we are very much in the preparation stage, ready for a big change in pace from primary school. I have worked with some lovely brands to put together this guide on what to buy for a child starting secondary school, from personalised stationery to all the must have items and practical products that might have slipped your mind. Personalised Stationery
Who remembers the end of the summer holidays when you would go and get yourself new stationery for the new school year? I absolutely loved it, and I got all the nostalgia when I received this lovely little bundle through the post from Avorium, who have some gorgeous personalised stationery, that would make a beautiful gift for children starting their new school. The diary and notepad are super practical too, and the bookmark is going to replace my seen-better-days scrap of paper right away (and would definitely encourage reading for children, I’m sure).
Must Have Items
Cameron has come home with a list of ‘must-have’ items for when he starts school in September. These range from items I would have definitely bought for him anyway, to ones that I had no idea he needed. Luckily Ryman came to the rescue and sent over almost all of the items on the list – I particularly love the rainbow rubber and the pack of highlighters, but Cameron is most impressed by the scientific calculator (which totally took me back to my GCSE exams).
Keep Hydrated
Drinking lots of water throughout the day has been proven to help aid concentration, plus it just makes sense to keep hydrated during the long school day anyway. This B and Co Hamelin stainless steel bottle from Ryman is a good size and very durable, ready to be put through its paces with a year seven!
Plan it Out
I don’t know about you but I love a good weekly planner and this one from Busy B is going to really help Cameron and I keep on top of all of his new lessons, homework and extra-curricular activities, I’m sure! I love that it has stickers and tear off lists, and it comes in lots of different patterns too.
Home Learning
Does your child struggle to learn in a traditional way, are they dyslexic or do they have SEN or do they just prefer visual learning? Are you looking for an engaging method to help give them a head start over the summer, or to go alongside their learning when they start secondary school in September?
