I know, I am a bit late on this one. I have been so, so busy with the new job and other stuff going on behind the scenes lately, that October just clean got away from me! I have all three of the children’s birthdays in autumn, so it is always a bit of a crazy time, getting presents and parties sorted out, and before you know it, it’s Christmas time, so here are some of the things I am looking forward to before the big day.
Autumn Walks
I have mentioned before my love/hate relationship with this time of year. On the one hand, the colours of the leaves and the crisp, fresh autumn mornings are lovely, and I really enjoy the lead up to Christmas too, but I also have seasonal affective disorder, which means that I struggle more with my low mood as the days get shorter and there is less sunlight. I try to make the most of the sunlight we do get at this time of year, and I love getting outside for nice long walks, to clear out the cobwebs before going home to get cosy.
Birthday Celebrations
As I mentioned, the kids all have birthdays in autumn. As I am writing this quite late in the day, Cameron and Benjamin have already had theirs, but Carly’s is coming up, as well as my mum’s and Bella turns one at the end of the month too – all the birthday celebrations!
Cosy Nights In
If I can’t have the daylight, I try and make the most of the darker evenings and light candles, get under blankets and get cosy. There are so many shows I am trying to watch at the moment on various tv platforms, so I am scheduling in some early nights to catch up.
Autumnal Mini Breaks
I love getting away over a weekend, even if it is just for one or two nights, it feels good to have a bit of a break sometimes. I have a girls weekend planned for the end of November, and I have my sister coming to visit the weekend before that, but I also want to book in a city break or two for December, before the madness of Christmas. My job now involves some travel too, which is fun!
Christmas Shopping
I am so behind with my Christmas shopping, I am usually nearly done by this time of year, but I have just not had the time to focus. I will be writing down my lists and getting the majority done online, but there is nothing quite like a trip into town to look around the displays, and do some physical shopping at this time of year too.
Meeting Santa
Ok, I have clearly already met Santa, but I mean doing one of those activities for the children, mainly Benjamin nowadays, which involves asking the big man for their gift, and taking lots of photos. There have been so amazing interactive events available locally in previous years, so I need to have a look around online and see what they are doing this year.
Catching Up With Loved Ones
The main thing I am looking forward to this autumn is catching up with friends and family, who I haven’t seen as much of as I would like. The children absolutely love spending time with family too, so I am scheduling in lots of catch ups as we get closer to Christmas, after a very small, locked down Christmas period last year.
