Since we moved into our 1930s house at the end of December, we haven’t actually done anything to it, despite buying it as a bit of a project, in need of renovation. First there was Christmas, and then coming to terms with another lockdown at the start of the year, and in all honesty a lack of money and having the children at home 24/7, and a new puppy, was making it all a bit daunting. In the end, we have decided to put our original plans on the back burner for now, as they are costly, and instead we are attempting to make a start to get us going with the renovation, by sorting out the boys’ bedroom.
The bedroom is liveable, but it definitely needs modernisation, having been used as a craft room by the previous owner – it even has a random sink in it!
We took a look on Pinterest for some inspiration, and have since made a sketch and planned out what we want, where, in the room. We were looking into fitted wardrobes to begin with, until we had some quotes come back at over £3k, and we decided we would have to do it ourselves instead!
Basically I want the wardrobes to go either side of a window seat, where the sink is currently, with additional storage above and below, providing a lovely calming place for the boys to read in. I like it so much, if it works out well, I might do similar for Carly’s and our bedroom as well – I love having a place to relax and unwind, and would like the children to have this as well.
I also want a desk area, with neon lighting, and gaming chairs for the boys to play on their Xbox and other devices, and for Cameron to do his homework on. Again, this will likely be from IKEA, and I have prints from Desenio, that will fit perfectly.
Other than that, we already have a double bunkbed, which we only bought when we moved in, so that will stay, but might be repaired a darker colour. The walls are in the process of being stripped of wallpaper, and painted two shades of blue, and the carpet will be ripped up and replaced (I am torn between whether to replace with another carpet, or if we should go for floorboards, to minimise mess).
I am really excited to finally be making a start with the home renovation, but I am also nervous as it is not something either of us have experience with, and I am worried about making a mistake or not liking the results, but we shall see how it goes!
