Losing a loved one is never easy, and there are a lot of steps that you might take to process your loss. One of the things that many people want to do is make sure that they keep the memory of their loved one alive in some way. They might not only want to remember them themselves but also create a legacy for them and make sure that other people are aware of them too. If you want to do something that helps to keep someone’s legacy alive, there are several things that you could do that would serve the right purpose.
Put It Into Words
Putting someone’s legacy into words can be a good way to memorialise them. You might want people to know how much they were loved by their children, what they were passionate about, or the difference they made to the word. You could do this by engraving what you want to say, with a broad range of memorials and headstones to consider. You might choose to have a memorial bench or a plaque that could be placed somewhere special. There are other options too, from creating a website to writing a book about the person you loved.
Donate to Charity
Donating to a charity can be a good way to keep someone’s legacy alive. When you give money to charity in someone else’s name, it shows that charity that your loved one was someone who cared about their cause. Giving money to charity can also come with other benefits, such as being put on a donor’s list or even something more permanent like being added to a plaque or having a tree planted in their name. Depending on how big the donation is, it could lead to something that keeps your loved one’s name alive for a long time.
Start a Scholarship or Bursary
If there’s a particular interest that your loved one had and they left a significant amount of money behind, starting a scholarship or bursary in their name could be a great idea. Maybe they would have liked to support more young women getting into engineering or help underprivileged children get better schooling. A bursary doesn’t have to be particularly large to make a difference to individual students, so you could offer it for a long time and ensure as many people benefit from it as possible. It doesn’t have to be connected to a particular school either.
Talk About Them
Another way to keep someone’s legacy alive is simply to talk about them. Telling others about what they stood for, what they did during their lifetime and what they meant to you will help to ensure they’re not forgotten. It also gives you the opportunity to remember what you loved about them. You don’t necessarily have to wait for a special date when you can talk about them. Bring them up whenever it seems relevant to let other people hear about them.
You can keep someone’s legacy alive in whatever way you feel best represents them and their life.
