Lockdown is tough, right? Although I have just about started to get used to this ‘new normal’ and settled into a routine, it is still a strain on your mental health to have to stay indoors for an extended period of time. I have found a few things have helped me to feel in control whilst at home during lockdown, and one of those things is how I choose to dress.
Yes, I could stay in my pjs all day long – who’s going to know other than my husband, kids and possibly my boss if we have a video call? But I am choosing to dress for myself during lockdown, to regain some control and to cheer myself up when I am making the journey between my makeshift home office and the back garden for a homemade cocktail at the end of the day.
Very have some great pieces on their website, if you are looking for some transitional spring to summer clothing.
For those first few heady weeks of lockdown when the weather was gorgeous and many of us felt like we were living in some surreal dream, I lived in my selection of floaty dresses. As a mum of three, my tummy is the part of my body I am most self conscious about, so I appreciate a dress that skims over this area, whilst showing off my legs, which are fairly long and in pretty good shape. I would usually wear these dresses for barbecues and trips to the park but they are just as good for long sunny afternoons in the back garden.
Balcony Beach Wear
Ok, so I don’t have a balcony, but we do have some decking, which we have taken to sunbathing on when the weather is nice. I have been wearing my bikinis, closing my eyes and trying to pretend that I am somewhere tropical, or on the beach, instead of in our garden – it works for a little while until somebody’s lawnmower starts up, anyway.
Cute Slogan Tees
As I don’t need to wear my usual work clothes, I have been dressing down and my go-to has been cute slogan tees with a floaty mid skirt or a pair of shorts lately. I am fortunate that I am able to not only work from home, but that I can also take my laptop and work outside if I want to. I love sitting in the sunshine whilst I work, and I know I am very lucky to be in a position to do so. Vitamin D is so good for your overall wellbeing, and I have been drinking it in as much as possible whilst I am unable to go out anywhere other than my house or for a short walk outside.
For the times when you just want to snuggle up on the sofa and binge on Netflix, loungewear is what you need. I have never really been a loungewear girl before, but that all changed since lockdown, when being comfortable and cosy is what it’s all about. I am a big fan of getting changed into something comfy at the end of the day and kicking back with a puzzle (yes, that is a Friend’s quote). Can you relate?
Date Night Dress Up
Ed and I love a good date night, but obviously we haven’t been able to go out for months. That doesn’t stop us from getting dressed up for a nice meal together at home. I have been loving any excuse to get glammed up and wear my collection of fancy dresses and playsuits.
