This week I am joined by the lovely Becca from Becca Blogs it Out.
Hi Becca, first of all, congratulations on your marriage! When was the big day?
It’s been a while! We got married on New Year’s Eve in 2012.
Tell me a bit about yourself and your partner. When and where did you first meet?
I’m Becca, I’m 34 and my husband, Karl is 35. We’ve been together for 13 years. We first met at uni, but were just friends until 3 years later. Now we’ve been married for nearly 6 years and have 2 year old twins, Jack and Alice.
How did they propose? Or was it you who popped the question?
Karl finally proposed on Christmas Day 2011. It was first thing in the morning, in front of our Christmas tree and fireplace, just the two of us. I was so surprised, because we’d been together for over 6 years and I’d given up hope that he’d ever propose!
Tell me a bit about your big day. Where did you tie the knot? Did you have a theme or a colour scheme?
We got married in Negril at Couples Swept Away. It was beautiful and the resort planned everything for us. We got married on the beach at 11am, with our parents and my brother in law.
We didn’t really have a theme – the beach was enough! But I wore bright pink sandals under my dress and had pink flowers.
What was your favourite memory from your day?
Seeing Karl standing at the end of the aisle and the look he had on his face. I felt so beautiful in that moment and so happy to finally be getting married.
In the evening, we went to the resort’s New Year’s Eve party and everything was lit up and decorated. It felt like they were throwing the party just for us!
Was there anything that didn’t go to plan? Or that you would perhaps have done differently?
I wouldn’t say that it didn’t go to plan exactly, and I’m not sure I’d do it differently if I could go back in time, but I wore a huge dress and it was perhaps not the best choice for a wedding in Jamaica.
It was just so hot! By 2pm, I was sitting on the bed in our room, with the Aircon on full blast! I love my dress though and it looked so pretty, so I’d probably still suffer if I could do it all over again! I was jealous of the men in their linen suits, though!
Do you have any advice for future brides to be?
Enjoy it! Even with everything being sorted by the resort, I still stressed out too much over every little thing. And then the day went so quickly! I wish I’d just relaxed and enjoyed the build up a bit more.
Also, make sure it’s your day! Don’t let people influence your decisions for you. I was very nearly put off booking our destination wedding, because family members told me that people would be upset that they couldn’t come. I’m so glad we went ahead with it, because it was perfect for us.
