It’s that time of the year again when everyone starts laying out their New Years resolutions and the cynical amongst us roll their eyes and scoff at the idea of ‘starting afresh’ and ‘turning a new page’.
What’s wrong with using this new year as an excuse to make some changes to how you want things to be?
When it comes to my life, its always been a bit of a rollercoaster, and I feel that going into 2018, married, with three children, things are finally calming down a little.
I love the opportunity to assess your life as you enter a new year, and I try to make goals that are exciting but still achievable.
Here are the goals I am aiming for in 2018…
Take my Blog to the Next Level
I have already set some plans in motion for this one. During the Black Friday madness in November, there was only one sale I took advantage of and that was Siteground’s discounted website hosting.
I have now paid for the first year and I feel it was definitely the right time for me to go self hosted. This has opened up different avenues for me as a blogger and I am really looking forward to pushing myself out of my comfort zone a little more in 2018 and really bringing Even Angels Fall to the next level.
Start Writing my Book
A few months ago I contacted a publishers on the suggestion of a fellow blogger, and was completely shocked after pitching my book idea when they asked me to send over the first few chapters.
Unfortunately I hadn’t actually written anything at that point, but it has made me even more determined to actually get writing the book I have been umming and ahhing over for the past few years. Exciting stuff!
Put Experiences Above Possessions
Whilst saving for our wedding I sacrificed certain things in order to afford the expense a wedding in Santorini.
It made me realise that going away and experiencing new places was worth going without the latest must have beauty product.
I want to be able to take the children away and I am excited to start saving for our next adventure.
As well as this I want to do more things with Ed as a couple. For our wedding we received a voucher for dance classes and one for a vineyard tour and I am very excited for them both!
I would be a student again in a heartbeat if I could afford to. I love learning new things – knowledge is power and all that, but as I cannot afford to actually go back to university I will be enrolling myself on as many free courses as possible to increase my skillset and broaden my horizons for the years to come.
Build on the Success of Bournemouth Bloggers
I was fortunate enough to be given the chance to take over my local bloggers network – Bournemouth Bloggers, at the end of last year and already I have really thrown myself into plans going forward for it.
I love events, and am really looking forward to utilising my planning skills to make this network the best it can be in 2018. I have some exciting projects and collaborations in the pipeline and cannot wait!
Feel Confident Naked
Losing weight and/or toning up because of what others think is never a good idea. The amount of gym memberships that are taken out in January, only to be cancelled by the following month shows how silly a goal like this can be.
However, this is something just for me. I don’t feel that I am too ‘fat’ or too heavy at the moment. I am pretty confident with how I am generally, but depending on how much I have been eating and how little I have been exercising, I can feel sluggish and bloated, and it doesn’t feel good.
I want to reread The Goddess Revolution, something I really enjoyed last year, and I want to make healthy choices not because I feel I ‘have to’ but because my body will thank me for it.
Continue my CBT Techniques
Last year I suffered very badly with my anxiety. Things got to the point where I didn’t feel I was coping that well anymore and so I referred myself to Steps 2 Wellbeing, the NHS service, and I started seeing a therapist.
I had ten sessions in total and I really feel that they helped me to overcome a lot of the issues I was facing in my life at the time.
My CBT sessions have now finished, but I am determined to remember what I learnt from them, and use the techniques I learnt if my anxiety worsens again.
Are you making any goals for 2018?
