Getting married abroad and relying on the local hair and makeup artist included in our wedding package, meant I didn’t have a trial before our big day. Fortunately, on the day itself, my hair looked nice and I was happy!
I’m friends with a lovely local hair and makeup artist who runs her own successful company, specialising in bridal hair and makeup. Sally actually did my hair and makeup for my first wedding, so I am confident in her abilities.
I had a quick chat with her before we flew out to Santorini, to reassure myself everything would be ok and to get some tips and tricks specifically for hair and makeup in hot weather.
Keep hair well conditioned before you go & during the holiday.
Always wash or at least rinse hair if swimming in the pool or salty sea!
Use hair oil to nourish & avoid frizz in the heat. Applying a little whilst hair is damp will help.
Try to avoid blow drying if possible, especially on long hair. Added heat doesn’t help. Let it dry naturally.
Wear a big floppy sun hat to protect hair and of course the face.
For styling long hair on holiday try simple braids, plaiting while damp by day and then undoing by night for soft, flowing waves….
Make up :-
Keep it simple. No need to wear a full face of make up on holiday!
A tinted moisturiser or BB cream is perfect & usually contain a higher SPF than a foundation.
If you do wish to wear a foundation though for a more flawless evening or wedding look try Estee Lauders Double Wear Light.
It’s a lighter version of the original Double Wear but still has the long lasting staying power. It’s my make up of choice on holiday!
A slick of lipgloss for kissable summer lips is all that’s needed to finish the holiday ‘look’
Top tip :- Use a finishing spray. It will set the make up & cool you down as well. I love MAC’s Prep & Prime Fix+
Spray before & after make up AND it also comes in a handy travel size 😍
Thanks so much Sally! Sally’s website has full details of her services including lots of testimonials and her price list. She’s also on Facebook and Instagram. I would highly recommend her to any local brides.
I also interviewed Sally previously on the blog, for the sit down with a supplier series where she spoke about wedding hair and makeup in general so please do take a look!
