As you many know, we bought our house at the end of 2020 and have been slowly renovating it since. The house was old fashioned but totally liveable, so we have done it at a slower pace to save money and make sure that we know exactly what we want before doing any work. The children’s rooms were done first and then our bedroom was completed at the start of this year. Now it is finally time for us to complete our lounge – the room I like the least currently, as it is in desperate need of some TLC and a fresh lease of life.
We spend a lot of time in the living room, as it is where we can spend time as a family all together. At the moment I avoid it more than I would like to, so I am hoping to create a space which is welcoming where we can relax and enjoy each other’s company, and a place I would be happy to invite friends over to as well. It’s probably the last room we will renovate before saving up to do the kitchen/diner project (which is going to be mammoth), so I am looking forward to getting stuck in to renovation life again.
The biggest mission is the walls and ceiling as they need the wallpaper taking off, to be completely replastered and then painted. From our experience, it’s always the biggest job and the most time consuming as you have to wait for the plaster to dry before you can then get the painting done. With our bedroom we ended up painting ourselves, but this time we are hopefully having a friend who is a decorator do it for us. Right now we are waiting for the plastering to be done, so that we can then have the room painted a beautiful shade of blue (colour Hyacinth Bucket from Victory Colours).
We are hoping that the flooring underneath the awful carpet in there is going to be salvageable so that we can have wooden flooring rather than carpet, as Bella pretty much lives full time in the lounge so it makes zero sense for us to have a nice carpet in there, but we need to pull it up to check. If not, we need to look into a LVT Flooring (the nice kind). It’s all a bit of a waiting game at the moment.
The sofas we have currently are nice leather ones, in need of a bit of a clean, but they are cream, so ideally we are looking to sell them and buy nicer ones that fit the aesthetic of the room. We also want to rip down the curtains and start new with them. Other than that, we aren’t looking to add anything else to the room other than finishing touches, it’s not a huge space, but I have a vision and know it will look amazing once it’s finished (hopefully within the month).
