Bedroom Renovation Reveal

You may remember at the start of the year I shared that we had decided a little spur of the moment to finally renovate our bedroom, having moved in two years beforehand. Well what was meant to be a fairly quick job ended up taking weeks after we were let down by our painter and then the company providing our wardrobe for us. It meant that we were sleeping on a mattress on the floor (first my sons’ room and then back in our own room whilst waiting for the wardrobe to be delivered and assembled) for over four weeks. It was a tough time, and I am so relieved to finally be able to reveal our new room, which is just as I envisioned it and perfect for what we wanted, a clean, fresh and slightly minimalistic style, reminiscent of a hotel bedroom, with little touches such as my pole dancing pole, some fantastic neon lights (from Lights4Fun) and our rather eclectic prints from Desenio.

Our wardrobe, although lovely, is a point of contention due to the utter incompetence and awful customer service we received from the company. I will not be providing the details of the wardrobe for this reason as I do not think they deserve the advertisement, and I would not wish others to experience what we did. I wanted something which was white with sliding mirrored doors and a lot of storage, and this fit the bill without breaking the bank quite as much as some of the other options out there. It also came with strip lighting around the doors, which added another element to it, without any additional cost.

As our painter let us down, we ended up painting the room ourselves with the help of my dad and sister, and it turned out pretty well and didn’t take us anywhere near as long as I worried it would. It also saved some money, which is good as the finishing touches, all those little things you want to make a house a home, started adding up!

I bought a few bits from Amazon including our bedside lamp (touch with USB and USB-C ports), the bedside cabinet (very minimalistic) and my blue velvet stool (which has storage and the lid can be turned over to create a table top too).

We already had the bed frame and mattress, but we were fortunate to be gifted the duvet cover and pillowcases from Cotton Traders. The sheets are 400 thread count cotton sateen sheets and they feel so soft to sleep in – the ultimate hotel bed feel! The fitted sheet and extra pillowcases are gifted from BelleDorm and are also super comfy.

Our Cushions, lampshade, curtains and tie backs were all from Dunelm, as was the bin (which only cost £1.50). I picked up a plant pot and fake plant from Matalan, and my pink velvet hangers were a pack of 30 from TK Maxx. The storage containers for my wardrobe were from B&M and my amazing leaning mirror was £109 from The Range – I searched high and low for a mirror in this style that wouldn’t break the bank and was so, so pleased with how this one looks in the room.

As I said, our prints were from a previous collaboration with Desenio, and I love how they look up on the walls. My Dressing Table was something I already had, but I added fairy lights from Lights4Fun, to add a little extra sparkle to the room, and I also treated myself to a candle from The Range to burn at night.

We got a couple of smart plugs and bulbs and I love being able to control them with a touch of a button from my phone – it definitely makes everything a little easier when going to bed!

All in all I think we spent around £300 on the extra bits for the room, plus the wardrobe with assembling which was close to £1000 and then the plastering, paint and new carpet on top. It wasn’t a cheap job but we certainly did it on a reasonable budget and cut costs where we could to achieve the look I wanted without breaking the bank. I am really pleased with how the room looks now, and I have already had lots of compliments on social media where I shared the room reveal reel recently.
