Last weekend I headed over to Cornwall to get away from everything for a few days. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes in my life at the moment, and I needed a bit of an escape to recharge. I went with a friend, and it was just what I needed to get my head a little clearer and to explore some new places. I have been to Cornwall a lot on holiday since I was a child, but we tend to go to the same areas, so I was excited to visit St Ives and the surrounding villages, as it was all new for me.
We arrived late on the Friday and my friend had some work to do remotely on the Saturday morning, but we got out and about from mid afternoon and headed to St Ives to explore. It was absolutely packed, the downside to all this turmoil with international travel meaning that UK staycations are booming especially in pretty seaside towns such as St Ives.
We still had a lovely time walking round and taking some photos and video clips for a reel (the Instagram life doesn’t take a break). The weather was actually lovely, which I hadn’t been expecting, and I got a bit of a sweat on walking back up the steep hill to the car park.
We decided to try and find somewhere a little quieter to visit next and Zennor was definitely the place to go. The little village is home of the Moomaid ice cream, which is incredible and worth the visit (though it is also sold across Cornwall). It was nice to just chill for a bit and enjoy the peace and quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of St Ives.
We stopped off to take some photos on the way back to the cottage we were staying in – Cornwall is so beautiful, it always manages to steal my heart when I visit.
The next day we refused to be put off by the heavy mists and packed a picnic before hiking across to Porthmoina Cove, which was a bit of a trek and involved clambering down a rocky cliff to get to, but we were rewarded by a completely deserted cove and the sun breaking through the clouds as we ate our food.
Back on the road, we stopped off for a roast dinner at a lovely little pub before driving across to Porth Towan, where we worked up the courage to go for a swim in the very cold sea! It was so much fun, although I did get knocked over by some of the waves and ended up drinking some sea water!
Before heading back home, we stocked up on BBQ essentials and enjoyed them overlooking the Burrator Reservoir in Dartmoor National Park. It was the perfect end to a lovely little weekend break, and I came back to Bournemouth feeling a little less stressed, with a camera roll full of pictures from my adventures.
If you are thinking of booking a little weekend break, I couldn’t recommend the location we stayed in more. Nancledra was a brilliant base for exploring St Ives and the surrounding area, and the cottage was cosy, with friendly hosts.
