As you’ll know by now, we are currently at the start of a home renovation on the property that we bought at the end of December. It is early days right now, as we are saving and working on rooms as we can afford them, but I have lots of plans in place. It is very exciting looking forward to putting our stamp on the place in the coming months. One easy and affordable way to add a little personality to your rooms, whether you are waiting to renovate like us, or just looking to add a little something to your rooms for the new spring season, is wall decor. Here are some ideas on how you can update your walls, without breaking the bank.
Add A Talking Point
Want to jazz up a room without adding too much clutter? Find yourself something unique that will be a real talking point for when we are all allowed guests in our homes again. Cuckoo clocks are a brilliant alternative to your standard wall clock and can transform the look of a room, drawing the eye with their intricate detailing. When looked after properly, cuckoo clocks can stay in families for generations, so it really is a fantastic piece to invest in. You can go with a more traditional look with wood tones, choose a bright coloured modern cuckoo clock that is great for kids’ rooms, or go with a minimalistic look perfect for a lounge or office.

Paint a Feature Wall
Hoping for a fresh look for your room, but not keen on the work or expense of painting all the walls? You could just paint one wall and make a feature of it. Think about what colour will go with your existing paint, and go from there. I love how feature walls can completely transform a room without the cost of a full makeover. Although we are painting the whole room, we have a feature wall planned for the boys’ bedroom, a darker navy colour against a lighter blue for the rest of the room, and this will be where their TV and gaming gadgets are based.
Add Floating Shelves
Floating shelves are practical and stylish, providing additional storage and the ability to display books, ornaments, plants and framed prints effectively. I love how they look above a bed to give the room a little something extra, and I am already planning what I want on mine before we even think about renovating our bedroom! Floating shelves are also brilliant if you don’t have a lot of floor space available, as they take away the need for big bulky furniture.

Put Up Prints
I am obsessed with finding prints for each of our rooms at the moment — they really add personality and are affordable and easy to add to a room. You can find quotes that you love, or put together a gallery wall to add to a room and create a feature quickly and easily. We have so many prints up around the house, and it is lovely to be able to hang them wherever we want, having been in rented accommodation for the past few years.

Redecorating a room doesn’t have to cost the earth, simply adding a feature to your walls can freshen things up, without the need to spend a lot of money. I love heading onto apps like Pinterest to get a feel for what I like first, and then hunting online for ways to replicate the look on our limited budget. As we are renovating at a slower pace, I think adding features to our walls will be something we will focus on a lot at the moment, to give things a fresh feel, before taking the plunge and redoing the entire room.
